Much Unpopularity Coming to Him
Over His Opposition to PrcSl.
dent Which Incidentally
"Tho Upper House
Squelched.
Senator Gore's resolution to warn
Americans off of nrmod merchant
ships which if It had passed would
havo had tho orfect of repudiating
President Wilson's entire foreign
policy ns sot out since tho stnrt of
tho war was not only dealt a heavy
death blow In tho Senate but has
had the effect of making tho blind
Senator vory unpopular nmong tho
business dement and the people in
general all over the State or Okla-
homa. Ordinarily Mr. Gore one of
the most adopt politicians in the
country. Is able to feel the pulse of
the public well enough to do what
he seos public sontimont wants. More
than that he has had a way of get-
ting things through tho Sounte whon
occasion domnnded It. But this time
It looks as if he had gono off half
cocked.
Bryan County gave Mr. Gore one
of the nicest majoiitios ho received
during the Gore-Hnyes campaign of
two yours ago but that the blind
Senator's etar is fast waning in this
county is Indicated by telegrams that
have boen sent him from over the
county protesting ajralnat his rad-
ical and unfair stand on the issuo.
Aside from many Individual messages
sent him ono telegram was signed by
several prominent men In a body.
The message and signers are as fol-
lows: "Wo vory much deplore your
stand against the Prosidont. We I
have utmost confidence in the
way tho President handles our
foroign affairs. We trust you
will not further embarrass him
"C. C. Hatchett V. B. Hayos
J. T. Mcintosh C. B: Cochran
W. F. Tyreo W. F. Pendleton
Tom King T. J. Perkins and
B. S-. Johnson."
That the Senator's unpopularity
as a result of his unwarranted ac-
tions is statewide in Its scope is in-
dicated by countloss unfavorable
newspaper nrticles In the Democratic
pross and the fact that tho politi-
cians formerly on Gore's side are
good and sore.
Politicians are Interested now in
whother Gore will make an effort to
go to the Democratic National Con-
vention as delegate at large. There
are many who assert that such an ef-
foit on his part would be tho signal
for a determined fight against him
by the administration Democrats
who have adhered to the foreign pol
icy of the President. It has been
considered a foregone conclusion
that both the United States Sena-
tors would bo placed on the delega-
tion to St. Louis.
It is now suggested thtU a way out
of this without precipitating a fight
In the party would be to adopt a plan
that would debar all Federal officials
from positions as delegates. If this
shall meet with tho approvel of Sen-
ator Owen and possibly Congressman
Ferris who is understood to be am-
bitious to go as a delegate the plan
may be adopted.

Says Little Doing in
Big Business
Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Arthur asso-
ciated with Sam I. Hynds & Co..
have Just received an interesting
letter from Arthur Blundoll. of Liv-
erpool Englnnd who two winters
ago was In Duraht working for S. I.
Hynds & Co. nnd was received In
Durnnt March 14 having boen 17
days gotting hero which is consider-
ed pretty good time in viow of tho
obstacles that confront all trans-Atlantic
traffic.
Mr. Blundoll wrltos that business
is very dull in all linos in England
and that the cotton business Is par-
ticularly quiet. Food stuffs are vory
high many tlinos higher thnn in
normal times and that tho supplies
of the more common commodities
are rigidly conserved.
Raids over English coast cities by
air craft are common occurrences
and always take their toll of life
and do tromendous damage to prop-
erty. Howovor tho people do not
soem to ho much alarmed at Zeppplln
raids he says.
Tho wnr denartmont has called
all able-bodlod single men into ttioi
arm v. mid within a short time &?-l
poets to extend the call to includo
the young and middle-aged married
men o fgood bpdllv condition whon
to quote Blundell's letter "I expect
I shall have to go and stop tho bul-
lets like tho rest of thorn." '
Mr. Blundell says that the pcoplo
in England get very little more real
war news than we get hero as it is
ill severely soncorod before bolrig
given out to tho public. Ho sayB
that ovory Englishman is confident
that the allied armies will not agree
to any sort of poaco until the Gor-
mans and their allies are sovoroly
beaten wihch they do not boliovo
will be long. He says thoro will be
something big dol:g in the spring
VALUE OF FARM AGENTS
Tho services of a farm demonstra-
tion agont in Stophens County Okla-
homa last year caused one farmer
who followed instructions to Bathe
20 balos of cotton from 20 acros of
land where tho average yield In the
county was a little over one-third of
a bale to the acre. A market for
fiult was created and 3759 bushels
of peaches were sold for 23 cones a
bushel. Meburne Texas peanut
buyers Joined tho agent In a peanut
campaign with the result that four
carloads were shipped from the coun-
ty says a special to the OklahoMdn.
One boy in a corn club made 68 hiiFh-
els to the acre and th oavera;e for
the club was 38 bushels of corn to
the acre. In tho boys' cotton club
an average of 906 pounds of 9Pd cot-
ton to the aero was produced. One
boy aeclerd $97.55 on his plot of two
acres. A pig club lad made $ 12 from
his hog and took third prize at tho
State Fair in Oklahoma City. Agent
W. B. Tucker says: "Perhaps tho
greatest work does not show in fig-
ures. The people hnve beon ured
to raise their living on the farm and
they have canned fruit in their cel-
lars potatoes evogtablos of ail kinos

AS JUSTICE OF TOW.NSHIP
Last Monday J. G. McAlister of
Mead came to tho city and appeared
before the Board of County Com-
misslonois to tender his resignation
as Justice of tho Peace of Township
No. 3 this county. The resignation
was accepted and Ernest L. Trout
of Mead was appointed to fill the
vacancy caused by Mr. McAlister's
resignation. The gentleman ex-
plained that the cause of his relin
quishing the office was the fact that
ho has been appointed to the position
of County Manager of the Mutual
Aid Union of Rogers Arkansas and
that the duties of tho office would
require so much or his time and at-
tention that It "would be impractica
ble fqr him to also hold the position
of justice or tho peace. Mr. McAl-
ister proposes to make a full and
thorough canvass of the county in
tho interest of the Mutual Aid Un-
ion and will commence at once.
Mr. Trout was present at the time
of the acceptance or Mr. McAlister's
resignation and immediately took tho
oath of onice.
Mr. W. R. Smith tho well known
Mead school director was also pres-
ent and all three or the gentlemen
paid this office a pleasant call.
