' Plans perfected thU wook by W.
V. Pendleton general manager of the
Durnnt Cotton Oil Company for tho
production of peanut products- rvt tho
company's Uoswoll plant. Insure n
ready matkot Instills city for nil tho
I'vuuuiB grown in uryun county's
trndo torrltory nml adjacent country
nnd tho company will bo ready to ac-
cept nnd pny for ponnuts dellvorod
to tho Durant milt Just ns soon ns tho
crop Is ruly Tor tho market
v Tho cotton oil pcoplo havo bcon In
a qunndury this season fqr tho m-
non that tln unusually short crop of
cotton mnkos prospects for n proflt-
nhlo run Of cotton seed products vory
unfavorable and this stnto or affnirs
Is mostly rosponslblo for tho com-
. pany's decision to experiment with
pennuts. v
Whon scon by a representative of
the Weekly News regarding his com-
pany's plans. Mr. Pondleton said that
they would more than llkoly bo able
to utilize their machinery for mak-
ing cotton seed products. andwould
not llkoly havo to buy any additional
machinery for tho working up of tho
peanuts.and that the only question
as to tho success of tho venture Is tho
ability of the company to find a ready
market for tho products of the pea-
nuts. Tho hotter the mnrkot for tho
products tho better prices tho com-
pany will bo nble to pay tho growor
for his peanuts.
Tho plan ns .contemplated by Mr
Pendleton Is to crush the nuts both
shelled and unshelled extracting the
oil which is Bold principally to large
food people for use in the preparation
and making of various edibles. The
resultantlhg "cake!'. is then ground
Into a meal which is'snld-to bo one
of the finest of feeds for hogs horses
mid -cattle nnd which. contains fully
as much protoln (bono nnd muscle
builder) ub cotton-seed meal.
Tho present mnrkot quotation for
peanuts is 40 cents a bushel of thirty
pounds. The arerago yield per ncro
for Oklahoma and Texas last year
was forty btislie's which would mean
at current quotations $16.00 por acre
from peanuts. Howovor a fair yield
for Oklnhomn peanuts" Is said to be
Blxty bushels por ncro. and some in
this county have run as high as one
hundred bushels por acre. If a good
permanont market Js ostqbllshod here
' for the nuts thoro is no doubt in tho
world that tho raising of them on n
large scnlo will bo more profitable to
tho farmera than the raising of any
other crop.
Tho Durant Cotton Oil people are
to bo commended for their progres-
elvencss In attempting this venture
.and barring unexpected hard 'luck
ought surely to mako It go nnd go
good. .
ALLIES TUB AOGRESSORS
FIRST PART OF THIS WEEK
Tho English and French surprised
the world this week by a fierce of-
fensive along tho front In northern
Franco winning signal victories and
capturing about twenty thousand un-
wounded Germans nnd many muni
tlons of war. Tho OonnanB officially
attempted to minimize the import-
ance of the Allies' victories nlloglng
that French reports Indicate that tho
Germans were forced from their
trenches into hasty retreat wlth
great losses. Tho German advance
Into Itussia seems to have been com-j
lilotcly checked tho Russians In some
localities regaining much lost terri
tory. War critics express tlio be
lief that tho Gerinnn and Auslrinn
nnrJr.- nro making .their last final ef-
fort and tTht J( that falls their re-
sources both of men and munitions
wlllbo drawn down to tho last sourco
of supply.
