NEEDS EXTRA CARE
FINE CHINA DEMANDS MOST GEN-
TLE HANDLING.
Otherwise Yost Highly Prized Pieces
Will Be Quickly Destroyed The
Proper Method of Handling
the Fragile Dishes.
Tho ordinary every day china may
be wnBhod first In hot soap suds then
In n clear rlnso water and dried with
soft clean dish towels. It Is only tho
experienced housewife who ever has
enough towels or who realizes that
thcro Is no economy In skimping on
theso wholly necessary articles. Two
dozen make n convenient number for
dally ubo. Those that aro used should
be washed out at somo sparo momont
in tho afternoon and hung on tho lino
to dry.
Dut to roturn to tho china. A house-
keeper should watch her maid care-
fully to see It her methods of dish-
washing aro approved. And they gen-
erally nre not." Tho mold must recelvo
her education In dishwashing and tho
housekeeper should bo obdurate on
this point She should provlda a hand
mop a half-dozen good dUli cloths
which she must demand to bo kept
spotless they are too often used to
lift up sooty pans a soap suds maker
that Is a small receptacle to hold
the odds and ends of soap which when
shaken In tho hot water will creato
a wholo panful of suds andtwo dish
pans one for washing and ono for
rinsing.
When the maid Is educated up to
tho proper standard of dishwashing
and learns to arrange her dishes In
well scraped piles tho plates having
boon scraped with bread to remove tho
grease her mistress will find that
breakage and tear will bo considerably
decreased. Tho maid must learn how-
ever and she usual'y does by bitter ex-
perience that to put delicate glass-
waro into scalding hot water means
death and destruction to tho glass-
ware. Tho same thing will happen if
hot tea is poured into a cold and brit-
tle teacup. This causes sudden expan-
sion and tho pleco cracks cither under
tho glazo or qulto through it. It is a
slmplo matter either to warm tho cupa
by pouring In n llttlo warm water or
by putting them in a warm oven for a
moment or better still by pouring tho
tea over a silver spoon resting on tho
cup.

DEFEOT OF THE AEROPLANE
The
Breaking of One Wlna I" Scwe
Machines Certain to Result
In Disaster.
That tome aeroplanes are able t
como snfely to tho ground after break-
ing a wing In tho air and that some
are not was emphasized by tho death
of Leon Dclagrango at Uordenux
France. A rather strong wind was
blowing and whon tho machino head-
ed Into tho wind tho right wing sud-
denly broke and tho monoplane fell
to tho ground. This Is tho first acci
dent which has occurred owing to tho
collapse of an neroplano when in tho
nlr. However somo tlmo ago a simi-
lar accident happened to Aeronaut
Latham but without disastrous ro-
suits. Ono wing of his monoplane broke
off and stood almost at right angles
to tho other wing yet by leaning to
ono sldo and warping tho remaining
wing Latham was ablo to guldo his
machino down In circles and bring it
safely to tho ground. After repairing
the wing ho attached it In such n way
that who.) ho was up in tho air he
could pull k cord and cause tho wing
to break off as before. Ho did this
nnd came down a second tlmo with
tho wing broken simply to demon
strate that a broken wing did not nec-
essarily mean disaster.
In the machino used by Latham the
wings are secured separately to a
mast so that tho breaking of ono does
not affect the other. In tho Deln-
grango monoplano tho wings aro con-
nected together over a tripod tho re-
sult being that if ono breaks tho oth-
er collapses and tho machino is sure
to bo dashed to tho ground.

both tho soldier and the Infant mo-
