Record Diamond Imports.
Maiden Lane diamond importers report that during the
month of January more gems were received in Now York
from foreign markets than during the first month of any pre-
ceding year and that unless all indications failed the fiscal
year ending with June would establish a record never before
aporoahed in the amount and value of diamonds and other
precious stones imported. The January shipments reached a
total of 84581606. Since last July $29000000 worth of pre-
cious stones and pearls have been bought in the foreign mar-
kets and importers say that the demand in this country is in-
crkasing despite the large shipments received. From Nation-
