COMPETITOR.
Up Against the Government.
Last week ono of tho largest mer-
chants of Ft. Cobb priced somo job
work nnd especially envelope with
tho printed roturn card; and after be-
ing informed of tho various price?
stated as his first argument that ho
could get envelopes furnished with
tho roturn card from tho local post
office at nearly half what wo priced
them. Not having the stock ot n
Montgomery Ward or Soars Roebuck
we could not possible moot tho prico
and expect by this tlmo ho has gono
his way rejoicing at driving n good
bargain with Undo Sam.
Wo disliko to bo interested in a
concern that never pays any dividonds
and that Is always calling on the peo-
ple o pay a deficit owing partly to
.bed-rock competition with its own
pcoplo and gotting a cleaning at every
turn in tho road in tho matter of
woights and nnt of mail cars by tho
rail-roads. Tho people being tho
government and wo ono of them we
como in for a small sharo in tho ex-
pense. Tho particular merchant wo ex-
poet would bo tho first to let out a
yell if the farmers of this vicinity
wero to patronize tho mail order
houses and piss him up.
So far as tho Record is concerned
wo don't rsk tho people of this town
to buy a thing of us if they think
they can get it cheaper soraowhero
else and especially at tho hands of tho
government. Wo h a v o a business
here just tho same as any other mer-
chants in it and wo aro for tho trade
and if a merchant thinks ho can offord
to patronlzo tho post-offico department
for his yearly supply of envelopes
because he can save money thereby
why wo say go to it. That's his
business
Sn far as support to this papei- is
concerned wo depend on tho farmors
and whenever our former frionds go
back on us why then wo will put
up stakes and hiko to moio fortilo
fields Fort Cobb Record.
