If there was any doubt in Dr.
Smiley'a mind of Hobart people
appreciating his former efforts
and eloquence that doubt was
certainly dispelled when he faced
the large and cultured audience
which assembled in the Congrega-
tional church last night to hear
his great popular lecture entitled
"Facts Fraternity and Fun"
which is one of the most mirth-
making pleasing and practical
ever delivered before any audi-
ence. The real facts as found in ev-ery-day
life are depicted in Dr.
Smiley's inimitable manner
therefore it is impossible to tell
on paper of his wonderful word
painting and great genius as an
entestainor.
Fraternity viewed by him means
vastly more than is found within
tho secret chambers of tho lodge
and the benefits thereof touch
every home and sit enthroned up-
on every hearthstone. Tho funny
side of life as shown by him is
so charged with wit and wisdom
that all who hear him feel that
they are in the presence of one
who knows
Smiley's strength is in his sim-
plicity of speech beauty of dic-
tion unlimited fund of knoledge
which he has stored from his
youth until the present period
and the fact ho never utters a
soft or silly saying places him in
the very front rank of platform
artists. His fun is funny his il-
lustrations illustrate and his
stories are told as no other man
can tell them.
People laugh and applaud from
star to finish and all seem sorry
when the silvery tongue of tho
silvery-haired American orator
ceases to speak. Hobart Lodge
No 40 Kniths of Pythias deserve
the thanks of our people for plac-
ing this king of story tellers bo-
fore the citizens of our city.
Dr. Smiley's tribute to the city
of Hobart at the close of his lec-
ture last night were terse timely
and true and greatly appreciated
by those present. He will always
be a welcome guest in our city.

She Balked.
As a man and his wife were
walking along the street just
west of the Anadarko National
Bank yesterday she got stubborn
balked and wouldn't move. The
husband became embarassed and
didn't know what to do he tried
hard to induco her to go but she
wouldn.t leave her tracks. A
clerk in a near by storo went out
to inquire the trouble he said I
can fix that old girl. So he
bought candy at Hoffmans and
gave her. That was just the
kind she wanted Hoffman's can-
dies. Showenton.

"The Smiling Smiley."
One of the most intellectual
audiences that ever faced a
speaker in tho city of Hobart
heard Rev. R. Finley Smiley
Sunday morning in tho Congre-
gational church at which hour
ho preached upon 'The hero of
tho Story" to the groat delight
of all who heard tho beautiful
words as they camo in honey-
like gweetness from the lips of
tho speaker.
His diseription of tho majestic
beauty presented in his natural
and magnificent mannor-greally
impressed tho audioneo with tho
fact that the man of Nazareth is
Christ the Lord and tho Savior of
Men.
At 7:10 Sunday evening the
church was taxed to ita utmost
capacity by the groat crowd of
excellent people who were de-
termined to hoar Dr. Smiley on
tho important question "Is fra-
ternal' secrecy detrimental to
Christianity" which was treated
in a masterly way. Without tho
least criticism or unkindness he
told of tho wonderful work per-
formed by the church to which
ho paid sublimost tribute and
that fraterity is co-operativowith
and marching sido by side all
who are endeavoring to advanco
Christianity and that under no
conditions whatever shonld there
be enmity between tho two.
Of Masonry and Odd Fellow-
ship he spoko in terms of praise
and of the Pythian Order ho gave
an account from' tho day of its
organization unto the present
time. Of how on tho 10th day
of February 1804 when brother
was battling brothel; on fields of
ay in Xjpxio land (the Knights
of Fytluas as an brganization
'saw the light of day. Founded
upon tho splendid story and
friendship of Damon and Pythias
the principles promulgated by
these brothers aro friendship
charity and benevolence. Thp
order is entirely non-partisan
non-sectarian and non-sectional
and all young men of good moral
character who have arrived at
tho ago of 21 may become mem-
bfrs and share tho benefits which
s ro stublo in character and en-
tirely to numerous to mention in
a brief report.
The credit of tho meeting abovo
noted is duo Hobart Lodge No.
40 Knights of Rythias and Dr.
Upshaw pastor of tho Congre-
gational church who is also a
Pythian for the splendid success
of Sunday's meetings for with-
out Hobart Lodge Bro. Smiloy
would not have visited tho city
and without Dr. Upshaw's co-
operation tho people would not
havo beon privileged to hear him
tell tho story of tho Nazareno or
the story of Damon and Pythias.
The brothers of Hobart lodge
are certainly among tho most re-
spectable and substantial gentle-
men of tho city and tho lodge
proper is in a very prosperous
condition. A happy thought is
suggested in tho above and it is
found in tho 133rd Psalm :
Behold how good a thing it is
And how becoming well
Together such as brothern aro
In unity to dwell.
Let tho great chariot of Christ-
ian co-operation roll onward in
resplendant granduor until tho
people of every climo shall rec
onizo tho Fatherhood of God and
tho brotherhood of man. Hobart
