A boor bottle bobbod into
Muskogoo the other day
snj's an exchange and al-
though it did not contain
the contraband liquid caused
quite as much commotion as
in it was a lot tor writton
apparently at Haskell J. T.
by two gii'ls saying that
thoy had committed suicide.
Perhaps they had merely
gotten away with the con-
tents of the bottle and felt
like joking.
What Is a Democrat
In a long article in a late
issuoof the Commoner ad-
drossed to the New York
World on the subject "Wha
is a Democrat?'' Mr. Bryan
recapitulates as follows:
To recapitulate a demo-
crat according to a party
definition is a man who con-
nects himself with tho demo-
cratic party and acts politi-
cally with those who bear
iho same party name. J if a
broader sono ho is a demo-
crat who believes in the rule
of the people and who de-
sire to ninko tho government
tho instrument in the hands
t
of tho people to carry out
thoir ivill. Such a man
trusts tho people and favors
such reforms as will give to
the people an increasing
power. And a real democrat
will not only favor demo-
cratic mothods in govern-
ment and insist upon tho
right of tho majority to rule
but ho will favor tho admin-
istration of tho government
in the interest of the whole
people according to the Jef-
forsonian maxim "equal
rights to all and special
privileges to nono." If I at-
tempted 'to apply those wO-ftV
nitions to particular ques-
tions J would enter tho field
of controversy but I do not
understand that there is or
can bo any controversy over
the doctrine that one is
democratic when ho trust
the people and undemocratic
when ho distru&t! them.
