LaBt night the Commercial
Club met at the oity hall to pass
upon the two proposals of A. J.
Sohmidt of Wynnewood I. T.
and Mr. Wootten of Chiokaoha
to build an oil mill here. Mr.
Schmidt has made two proposi-
tions the first being that he put
in $30000 while Anadarko putB
in $25000. A committee wad ap-
pointed to seoure the subscrip-
tions for our allotment of tho
a took but before the subsorip-
tionB were all in Mr. Sohmidt
notified Mr. Ogle that he had
found a man in Oklahoma City
who would take 210000 of our
$25000. The oommiltee having
then enough money in eightrest
ed from its laoors. Mr. Sohmidt'a
alternate proposition was a bonus
of $10000 and the site and he
would consider no smaller
amount.
Then Mr. Wootten who owns
mills at Chiokasha Lawton and
Hobart entered in. He oame
down from Chiokasha Tuesday
nl?ht and talked to the commit
tee leaving an offer in writing
as follows:
Anadarko June 10 1007.
To tho citizens of Anadarko.
Proposition
If you will furnish me a suit-
able site (acceptable to me) of
not less than fivo acres of land
and grant me sufficient time I
will build on site furnish an up
to-dato oil mill (not loss than a
two press proposition.) Will agree
to begin work on building some
time during ooming fall and to
have mill complete and ready
for business in time to take oare
of orop of 1008-0. It will be
my plan to begin building as
stated during fall of 1007 plaoe
oontraot for machinery and com
plete mill during spring and
summer of 1008. ThiB proposi-
tion in good faith and I stand
ready to satisfy you in shape of
guarantee.
R. K. Wootten.
The propositions were placed
fairly before the club and upon
motion by Mr. Farrington seo
onded by by Mr. Cox Mr Woot
ten's offer was aooopted and a
committee consisting of Messrs.
Ogle Goldman Divers o6d b
Perry appointed ro draw up the
terms of agreement with Mr.
Wootton who returns to Chiok-
asha tomorrow afternoon from a
business trip.
Mr. Wootten's high reputation
had muoh to do with the dub's
derision hiB aquaintances here
saying that he in conservative
in promises and generally per
forms mora than he undertakes.
He deolares himself as well sat
isfied with the site on South
Boundary and his mill we un-
derstand will be a two-press af-
fair with all arrangements to
install the third press whioh
will be put in plaoe If needed.
Mr. Wootten would not plaoe any
limit on the amount of the in
vestment saying that if the oir
oumetanoes justified him ho
would invest $75000.
While the Sohmidt proposition
contemplated a mill to take care
of this year's orop the olub mom
bers thought the delay of a voar in
its operation was more than made
up by having the solo owner
ship of tho mill in the hands of
an experienced man well known
to tho people of Anadarko with
none of the ugly possibilities
ahead such as have sometimes
happened in other towns. So tho
proposition is now up to the com
mittee appointed o provide the
site.
