"Green Bug" Pest I
Offers No Great Alarm1
Guthrie Okla March 11. So
persistent havo beootno the ro-
porta from all portion of Okla
homa and Texas that the green
tU peat is ruining tho wheat
orop that investigations wore
mnao by tho M. L. English dir-
ector of tho Oklahoma oxpori-
mont station at Stillwater who
dcclaroB there 1b not groat cause
or alarm from thia sourco. Tho
following statement wad issued
today by Dirootor English.

plant
Il.j'0 and while it may at timo8
become Yory destructive there
does not soem to bo causo for
great four of its ravagoB this
spring. Toxub roporta conbidor-
ablo damugo dono by this insect
but that state is further south
and ono could oxpect moro dam-
ago during tho winter and early
Bpring. Days warm enough for
the lico to work and yet too cold
for tho whoat to grow moans that
the whoat must suffer but ns
aoon as rapid growth begins it
will moro than keen pace with
tho insects und tho dumago will
bo insignificant unless tho lice
persist until heading time. If
tho insects happen to be present
at latter timothoy congroguto up-
on tho heads and completely rob
the grains of their nourishment
From now on thoro uro many
natural onomios of tho lice that
will very effoctually hold thorn in
check oven when they are in
considerable number. On March
3 tho writer found hundreda of
Bmall parasitic flies working over
the intesled areas. This meuns
tho destruction of hundreds of
these pests for tho flius deposit
their eggs in the bodies of the
lice". Tho ladybugs in great
numbors aro feeding upon the
lice also. Tho natural enemies
therefore together with tho rap-
id growth of tho plant will pre-
vent very groat damage being
dono.
"Tho reports that have been
sent in indicuto that tho lico
started in every case in small
isolated patches from which they
spread. When they are yet
oonfinod to these limited spots
they are very pruotioally and suc-
cessfully treated by fumigution.
Spraying with kerosene emulsion
waa not auccessful in on experi
ment hero at tho Btation for the
reason thut tho remedy cannot
be brought to the insects just
below the ground and to thofe
wrapped up in tho f )lded loaves
In an experiment just comploted
however hydrooyanic acid gaB
was entirely successful and is
practical on u Bmall scale. The
experiment was as follows:
"A piece of heavy muslin8 by
Vs foot equaro.wns painted to re-
ndur it tight. (Oil cloth or slick-
er cloth will do Justus well pro-
viding it is air tight) the cloth
was placed over a badly infeoted
spot tho center being held up
by stakes about fourteen inches
long driven in tho ground and
the odgeH hold down by throwing
dirt upon thom When thia 'as
in place making an air-tight
space over tho spot tho following
chemicals woro plaoed undor it;
For every 100 oubio feet of spuce
undor tho tent threo-fourth of
an ounce of potassium oyanide
and one andono-half ounoos of
water were used. Then water and
sulphuric acid were mixed to-
gether in an earthen dish and
andjalipped under the tent. The
potassium oyanide was then
woighed out and slipped undor
the tent and dropped into tho
sulphurio aoid and water. Gas
wua given off immediately and
left to tho notion of the gas for
fifteen minutes. When tho tent
wub taken off all the lice were
lying still and oven those below
the surface of the ground appear-
ed dead. Tho next day showed
hundreds of dead lioe with only
occasionally a livo ono whioh
hud crawled in from tho outsido
Tho wheat was uninjured.
"Whilo thia method is not
practical on a largo scale it is
praotioal and to bo recommended
Tho results of the primary

vote 220. Atiudarko has boen
normally Republican in tho past
by noarly 50 votes and it now
appears that tho Democrats may
reasonably expect to olect their
tickot. There will be nothing
taken for granted however but
tho party in the city will work
horse foot und artillery for
party success April 2.
It is a matter of satisfaction
thut ouch good men were nomi-
nated on both sides und it will
ho n nip-and-tuck struggle by
both parties with chances" very
bright for tho Democrats. Some-
thing now is up to our candidates
and they will do thuir pirt.
No soro spots seem to have de-
veloped as a result of tho vote.
Mayer Scott informed uo this
morning that ho would work for
tho tickot from head to foot and
everyone olso wo have soon

Tho Republicans held a ratifi-
cation meeting at tho court house
last t.ight of which C. B. Case
waa chairman and girded them-

many good men nominated

from a central colony ono oun
successfully prevent them from
aprading if found in time and
this1 method used. A lunger

"By a little observation one
oun find the worst infested spots
and treat them in this way even
at this timo but if the lice are
soattered and only a few in c
plaoe there need no no fear of
great damage being dono this
spring. Tho lioe are here in
small numbera every year and it
is only when they appear as an
army that great damage results.
These badly infested spots can
be easily treated as tho above
experiment ehowB."

Why Perfect Beer

The Best Beer la Possible Only "With
Eight-Day Malt A Scientific Tact
About Browing.
' perfect beer Is healthful It builds
u; itroiigth nids dlgcBtlon and acts ns
n. tonic In giving renewed vitality. A
perfect heor la posslblo only with perfect
nf.ilt and a perfect malt can only bo
mado by tho eight-day process used by
Pabst.
Malt Is mado from barley. Barley
contains In Its elementary form tho
constituents that go to build up tho
human Bystcm. Tho process of muklng
malt as some of our readers may
know Is much tho samo ns tho process
of digestion. The grain Is started
growing and tho chemical changes that
tako placo when It sprouts aro similar
to tho action of tho digestive fluids In
tho body If tho grain woro eaten.
Pabst has proven by Bclcntirto ex-
periments and sixty years qf practical
browing that eight days nro required
In making malt to bring about thoso
necessary chemical changes by which
tho perfect predlgested malt Is pro-
duccd. In many breweries tho old
four-day process Is still used and tho
malt Is of forced unnatural develop-
ment. It lacks In nutrition and Is In
all ways Inferior much of tho vital
nutriment of the grain being lost. Tho
Pabst olght-day malting process re-
tains In predlgested form In tho beer
all of tho nutritious llfo-glvlng ele-
ments of tho grain.
Pabst eight-day malt tho perfect
malt doubles tho cost of browing but
