Separate Coach
Resolution Adopted
The following resolution as
prepared by Delegate Haskell
and published in several news-
papers last week was introduc-
ed and adopted this morning by
tho convention:
Resolved That it is tho sense
of this body that Boparate coach-
es and waiting rooms be required
for tho negro race; that wo con-
sider this a legislative rather than
a constitutional question :
That statehood is tho all im-
portant question to rolievo our
people dm the embarrassment of
interior department rule;
That there is apparent good
reason to doubt the proclamation
of Btatehood if the separate coaoh
and waiting room provision is
plaoed in the constitution.
Therefore wo recommend that
the legislature do by law require
all railroads of the stated to pro-
vide separate but equal coaches
and waiting rooms for tho negro
race.
For State Senator.
Wo call attention in this
issue to the announcement
of J. T. Jerkins for .state
Senator before the Demo-
cratic primary.
It will bo romombered that
Mr. Jerkins was the former
editor of tho Democrat. It
would bo hard to find any-
one better and more favor-
ably known in Caddo county
and for that matter in this
part of tho state. Mr. Jer-
kins is in tho prime of life
has been a life-long Demo
crat! ana win. u eiectea re
flect honor upon himself and
tho party.

A Big Pasture Bidder Finds He
Is a Loser.
Lawton Okla. Mar. 1. Rioh-
ard Prondorvillo of Maitland
Mo. who was givon notico of
having boon awarded a trace of
land in tho Big Pasturo and
aftorwards notified by Commis-
sioner Richards that his bid had
boon withdrawn from considera-
tion because of discovered ir
regularities is preparing to man-
damus the Unitod States govern
ment in order that ho may got
possession of tho land Ho has
written a Lawton oltizon asking
him to employ an altornoy hero
to tako charge of tho oaso for
him.
Prondorvillo states that aftor
rooeiving notico from tho gon
oral land office that ho had boon
awarded a claim that notico ad-
vising him that he might make
settlement upon tho land prior
to making formal homestead en-
try he at once began making
arrangements to bring his family
to Oklahoma.; that ho disposed
of all his livo stook and a part of
other possessions leased his
lands there for a term of years
rented his houses and had his
goods packed for shipment when
a telegram reached him from
Commissioner Riohards announc-
ing tho withdrawal of the award.
This action may bo followed by
others of a similar nature in the
next few weekB A number of
successful bidders it is said
have been misled in tho lands
awarded them. For instance
M. W. Stono submitted a high
bid on a tract near Red river
that waB desoribed in tho govern-
ment field notes quite differently
from what he found tho actual
description to be after receiving
hiB award. Out of 100 aores
fully 120 are covered by rod sand
that is absolutely worthless for
agricultuaal purposes.
