Should tiho removnl of restrictions upon
1iho sale of allotments in the Indian Terri-
tory as proposed by Congress in an amend-
ment ns stated in a Washington dispatch
printed elsewhere in those colums become
a law there will be a groat rush of land
Bookers into tho now State. The country
will fill up with intelligent. ilinfty farmers
from tho overcrowdod sister States. There
-will bo added also churches schools
roads in fact all tho blessings now on joyed
by tho citizens of tho now two Territories
It will put an end to an ago of savagery
and misrule.
State Capital's Mctuidcriiifjs.
The Oklahoma State Capital which is
acting a sort of a fatherly ringmaster to
the convention promises us that the Wo-
man Suffrage question will be served up for
our enlortainmont in tho near future Per-
haps tho Stato Capital cartoonist who has
apparantly limited his artistic efforts to a
portrayal of I'ncle Sniu exhibiting a guar-
oi) te that lloodsSnrsnpnrilla complies with
the Pure Drug law. is sharpening a crafty
pencil to delineate delegntioiiH of woman
suffragists of the most ancient and feh'ne
type. If the convention takeR a stand
against making politicians of our new
State of Oklahoma mothers wives
and sweethearts wo may expect the Slate
Capital to give uncertain frothy arguments
about the Htidhliug Influence of Woman
and tell uk how the bourbons are legislat
ing against Purity in Politics and continu-
ance of tho saloon influence; that is if there
is brains enough in tho editorial staff to
put tho matter in readable shape. On the
other hand if tho convention should give
us a sufTragist clause and make the tax-
paying widow equal at tho polls with the
purehascablo male rounder wo may expect
tho Capital's artist to give Uncle Sam a
rest and vent his malignity on woman
lovely woman!
Any stick is good enough to strike at an
enemy with and the State Capital's stand
in any matter concerning tho convention
may bo known by outsiders with more cer-
tainty than wo can know whore it gets its
tolographic news reports.
The Constitutional Convention in its
steady slow progress has succeeded in di-
viding tho now state into counties some-
what to tho dissatisfaction of Caddo
county; has adopted tho preamble and the
bill of rights and is now preparing to lo-
cate tho county seats. Minor matters like
control 61 corporations railway supervis-
ion and legislative and judicial apportion-
ment are possibly on tho calendar and
some of the delegates may have given a
few moments thought to those trifling
matters.
Inasmuch ns the Democratic party is be-
ing tried out now in tho new Slate the in-
ference is that the boys should get busy at
the rwl things Party advantage is a good
thing but it seems that duo consideration
for the needs of the State is not partiular-
ly inappropriate at this time. Wo are re-
minded at times of the fable of tho greedy
dog with the bone in his mouth staring at
his relied ion in he water.

Some Dont See Right
A good many of ourtaxpuyinK
citizens nro accustomed to ouree
munoipal ownership bitterly and
in heaps when through no fault
of tho city the water and liRht
Bystems become temporarily dis-
abled. Yet the qity as had pay
many times over for tho taxes
required to maintain the plants
an instance being the quick work
by which a disastrous fire was
prevented last night. It was
good to see tho swiftness and
certainty with whioh our fire
laddies flooded the entire place
and how with no risk to anyono
and very little labor an ugly fire
was put out.
The citizens should congratu-
late tho firo company and them-
BelveH over this good work and
pay the taxes with bettor grace
since tho possible loss of thou-
sands of dollars at any time is
practically done away with.
