justment that has been generally re-
quested by the trainmen and switch-
men employed on all tho eastern
rallroadH should not be settled with-
out a serious difficulty If the union
men approach the proposition in a
spirit of Talr mlndedness. The rail-
loads are fair minded as regards the
wa" 'luestlon and If the same feel-
lug Is reciprocated by the men there
will be no occasion for recourse to
a strike."

 more from the slumping than did
 any other Industry.
