WORLD'S COTTON SHORTAGE.
All Signs Point to a "Rush" Demand
Some Time Soon.
During the pant h'x or eight month
moat unusual eotiilltliiin have Influ
enced thu markets for thu world's sta
ple proilut'lN and perhaps no ono crop
hits been moro effected thereby than
cotton the crop upon which tho

cash.
While many people contend that
thu organisation known as thu Far-
mers' Union made a mlsltku In fix-
ing at thu beginning of thu season
the minimum price nt which. Its mem-
bership Hhould market Itliu staple
tit too high a figure stltl had nor-

thu world's shoitagu Justifies the con-
clusion that such minimum price
might have been obtained before thu

tho notion taken by this organized
farmers' movement so potential a
factor in the production of Uio staple
(hero can bo little doubt that thu
spinning world and every interest
Identified with It determined by every
means within its power to resist to
thu last extremity this now price mnk-
lng power In tho market. Hence tho
deadlock between tho farmer nnd tho 1
consumer began with tho opening of
tho season anil lias been war;ed tin- j
remlttlngly ever since. Unfortunately j
for thu farmer tho panic whntovcr

contributing moro to weaken Mm
lu his fight for hklior prices thnn tho
combined powor of all other Influ-

still hangs like a pall over tho cotton
market could hardly havo been fore-
seen henco whatever tho outconio of
the contest tho elomeiit of chnnco
has contributed to make It an unequal

However ns sttttod at tho outset
there are not wanting Indications
that tho remnant of tho crop a largo

prices than now prevail. Statistics
show that tho shortago In thu world's
