KEEP COTTON
IN OKLAHOMA
SECRETARY MURRAY OF FARM
ERS' UNION INTERVIEWED.
WANT MORE STORAGE HOUSES
Says Every County in New State
Should Have Storage House Tk-
lahoma Farmers Should Plan
for the Future.
Shawnee Okla.. March 12. Keep
Oklahoma cotton In Oklahoma build
storage house In every county. lsu
certltlellales on two-thirds of the sup-
ply instead of shipping cotton to any
one (Inn of cotton brokers in the
south such Is the Idea of the Farm-
ers' Cnlon of Oklahoma.
The plan Is being strongly advocat-
ed by J. S. Murray secretary of the
Oklahoma Fanners U.'iilon. ' In a
statement given out by Murray he
says in part:
"Oklahoma farmers must plan for
tho future. They must adopt limi-
tless principles for tho sale of their
products.
"Suppose each local of the union
should approximate what they will
have to see In bulk such as cotton
oats corn wheat hay broom corn
anil potatoes and place It on recorJ
In some central place. The would-be
buyer could then secure direct com-
munication with tho sellers thus
eliminating the middle-man. By this
means much surplus that usually
goes to waste or Is sold at a low
price would be siivimI by means of
prolltable marketing.
It Is not tho amount of money a
farmer has that does him the most
good but how he may use It. So t
Is with the products of the Held. Rais-
ing everything that can be profitably
used at home does not altogether
remedy the evil but the way to the
markets must be guarded.
"For Instance take cotton: I would
refer all cotton raisers to Sections 1
2. 3 and I of the re.-olutlons on con-
solidated warehouses anil central sales
office as passed by the National
Farmers' I'lilon meeting at MemphU
January 1S09. Section I. says.
"All warehouses In a state should
be Incorporated under one charter
with the consent of the stockhold-
ers In the local warehouses and
thereby Increase the capitalization to
such an extent as to give the corpo
ration a sufficient rating to guarantee
all contracts and enable It to enrrv
on all business along legitimate lines
but In the event a local warehouse
refuses to comply with tho nbov
terms. Hie refusal shall not Interfere
with the creation of a Central Selling
Agency and a local wnrehouse not
taking advantage of tho above plan
may become affiliated with tho Cen

sult. "On the other hand. II these cer-
tlllcatcs are used we can pay our
debts make our purchases keep our
cotton off the markets and help to
get the minimum price.
"The motto of our fanners should
bo: "Build warehouses both for cot-
ton grain and broom corn as well
as for the crops In bulk."' We should
systeiulze our plan of marketing"
