today with morw than forty teams of
twelve men each contenting. The rog-
ular army navy marine corpa and tho
mllltla of nearly every state and ter-
ritory In represented. The match Ih
being conducted by tho National Hoard
for the Promotion of Ullle Practice.
Congress appropriated $390 in cash
for this event ns well as four gold
medals four silver medals and 'four
bronze medals. Over $2000 additional
linn been contributed by private par-
ties making this by fur the richest
prize ever offered In this country for
rllle practice. The conditions of the
match prescribes that only the rlllcs
and cartridges Issued by th0 ordnanco
department of tho United States army
shall be used.
The national Individual rifle mlitcli
will begol on Thursday with hundreds
of contestants to win the llrst prize
or $1000. The national pistol match
will also begin Thursday or Friday..
Both of theso events will be conducted
under the supervision of the National
board.
On account of the great number of
entries in the individual matches It Is
probable that tho tournament will la.it
through the present week.
