Hew YorK Cotton Letter.
Ardmore I. T. July l Fol
lowing is New York cotton let
ter by Melntyre:
Tnu market acted in such :
peculiar manner today that it
plainly indicated manipulation.
There was enough bull news to
put the prices above tho 1 1 cent
basis; but instead the market
advanced only 5 to 8 points in
tho early trad in i; and it was
swamped on selling orders from
big operators here and at New
Orleans.
Some thought that the failuro
to advance on the Giles report
was because the market had
been bulled to death and had dis
counted a condition as low as ;
per cent in tho Government's re
port which is duo at noon Thurs
day.
The failure of the market to
oven hold this slight advance
on later telegrams from Now Or
leans giving the gist of the
Times-Democrat report convinc-
ed the traders that insiders were
selling out or putting pressure
on the market to break it down
and this followed selling move
ment rather actively in the later
trading and helped to break the
market to the maximum decline j
of 15 to IS points from Saturdays
c ose. Wo aro expecting the
Commerce report tomorrow and!
wo cant see how this report can'
do "anything else than fall into!
line with others which haee been
recently issued and show a low-
er average than its report of last
month. If the government's re-
portof Thursday makes condi-
tions 75 per ct. it will bo about
the poorest on record at this
senson of the year and wo'd
rather buy cotton than to sell it.
Yours very truly
