London July 1. Dispatches from
the Fnr Kast say that tho Russian
Vladivostok squadron Is again actlvo
and bombarded tho Korean coast yes'
erday. sinking two vessels.
Tho Russians aro being driven back
ill along the line. Mu Cheng has
been captured by tho Japanese. The
town Is fourteen miles east of Hal
Cheng on the road to Feng Wnng
Cheng and Is ten miles from Fen"
Saul Pass wnlch was carried on tho
27th. Tho Russian Hank was again
turned and fortlflcatlcns captured.
Hie division of Gen. KurolS's army'
which drove the Ruser.ins out of Mo
no 'Tle"n Pass Is marching toward
I.lao Yang and Mukden. This would
also throw a barrier in the way of
Russian communication with Nluch-
wang and Pokln south.
Tho Russian arsenal nt Cronstadt
wns partially wrecked by tho explo-
sion of twenty Whitehead torpedoes;
caused by a fire believed to have been
the work of Incendiaries.
Toklo ndvlces say a rumor Is cur
rent that tho Vladivostok fleet ban
at last been (cornered by Admiral
Kamtuiura but this retiort can not
bo verified.
Another interesting report comes
from Chefoo to tho effect that several
of the Russian ships have escaped
from Port Arthur nnd are on their
way to Join the Vladivostok Heel
Although this story Is somewhnt
doubtful It Is conceedtd by expert
that the Junction of the two lleets
an.l a combined attack cn Togo who
evidently htm not more than enough
vessels to blockade Port Arthur
would be the wisest move The Rus-
sians could make.
In St. Petersburg the officials pro-
fess to bo greatly encouraged by tho
latest ieortK and clnlm that the Port
Arthur tleet sustained very slight
damage In the recent engagement an.l
that the strength of the blockadors
has been materially weakened The
nillltnry situation they declart vo bo
entirely satisfactory but It Is stated
on very good authority that tho trans-
portation of troops and munitions has
been greatly hampered by choking up
of the railroad which It Is said Is
at present when most urgently need-
ed almost entirely useless and uno-
qunl to the demands made upon It.
