A GRAND CLEARANCE SALE.
It is our rule to clean up all Remnants and Odd Lots at end of each season thereby keeping our stock clean and fresh. We
never do things by halves and when we put the knife in we put it in deep giving the out of town customer the same chance as
the one in town. Every department has been culled every short length remnant odd pair and small lot has been selected and
now wears a CLEAN UP PRICE. Space forbids more than a mere hint of the hundreds of items to be slaughtered in this sale.

QUEER THINGGS IN CHURCH.
Member of Choir Made Love Openly
Sexton Got Drunk.
When I left Cambrldgo tho question
was "Whoro shall I go?" says tho
lie?. W. S. Italnsford of St. Ccorgo's
Protestant Episcopal church In "A
Preacher's Story of His Work" In
the Outlook. About this tlmo a man
I had never heard of ottered mo a
curacy In Norwich tho Rev. William
Nottage Ripley. Norwich was a city
of 85000 people In tho center of tho
ihoo trade. If I were to dcscrlbo to
you tho rcllelous state of that town
you would scarce) boltcvo It. There
twos 48 old churches collego livings
very poor livings but enough for a
nan to live on. Tho holders of some
of these- livings did little some had
sunk Into a spiritual slough I did
sot know thorn as a rulo; thoy looked
upon mo as a wild flro brand and had
nothing to say to me.
Ono church a very old church was
held by a don of Cambridge n remark-
able scholar In his day. That man
was a curiosity. On cortaln occa-
sions ho used to havo comparatively
speaking a full church becauso he
Introduced certain things Into tho sor-
vice that amused tho people Among
ollior things whoa ho came. In tho
Psalter for tho twenty-fourth day to
tho tonth vorso of Psalm cxvl. whore
you romombor It reads "I said In my
haste All men aro liars" he would
Invariably stop and say "David If
you had lived In thoso days you
would havo said It ut your lelsuro."
And in tho lesson for tho twonty-flrst
Sunday aftor Trinity occurs tho pas-
sage: "And what tlmo yo hear tho
sound of tho cornet lluto harp sack-
but psaltery dulcimer and all kinds
of music yo fall down and worship
tho goldon imago that Nebuchadnez-
zar tho king hath sot up." This list
of. Instruments Is repeated you re-
call throo times In tho courso of tho
chapter. Tho first tlmo ho would read
it as it Is written but tho other thrco
times ho would Bubstltuto for It tho
phrase "Tho nforoenld gonlloman
with tho brass. Wind." Ho had othor
eccontrlcltlos that ho would indulgo In
on stated occasions. Those things
camo to bo known and on thoso Sun-
days tho church would bo lull.
Onco a yoar thoro was a collection
for tho choir and ho got some ono
else In tho pulpit to address tho peo
plo and draw a crowd. Aftor I had
been about a year and a half In Nor
wich ho asked mo to preach. Tit fen
tnro of that church was Its music. Tho
wife of tho old Ddn hnd a boautlful
volco: thoy had gathered togothor a
good choir. Tho pulpit was a tiny
black oak box with a small desk for
tho BIblo or sermons. This deuk slop-
mi down. My Diblo slipped and I
had to stoop to got It. In stooping
I leaned against tho pulpit door; It
spilt open and I nearly foil out of
tho pulpit! Aftor I had been preach-
ing n tlmo I looked down In to tho
choir which was a great box pow
In front of tho pulpit after tho old
fashioned way shut off from tho con
gregation by a curtain and I saw ono
fellow put his arm right around the
waist of tho girl next to him and
draw her head down to his shoulder
and ho ttept it thoro; then ho looked
up straight In to my faco and winked.
It broke mo all up. '
I walked out of tho pulpit went to
tho rector and said: "Dr. your
choir members aro behaving outra-
geously; I can not preach until this
Is stopped."
lie walked up tho square pow
whoro tho choir sat toro tho red
balzo curtain down with a jerk and
oxposcd them dlBconcortcd and
ashamed to tho full vlow of tho con
gregation and then sat down again.
I roturned to tho pulpit nnd wont on
with my sormon.
In tho midst of It ho lookod up nnd
aw walking up tho mlddlo nlslo In
solemn procession a hen with twelve
or fourteen chlckons. Whon tho s ox-
ton trlod to drive thorn out ho was
so drunk that he foil right on top
of tho lion. Tho bid dootor called
out. "Lot hor alone John; she Is do
ing no havm."
A Farmer Straightened Out.
"A man living on a farm Tioar hero
camo In a short tlmo ago completely
doubled up with rheumatism. I hand-
ed him a bottlo of Chamberlain's Pain
Dalm nnd told him to uso it freely
and if not satisfied after using It ho
need not pay a cent for It" says C.
P. Raydor of Pattens Mills N. Y. "A
few days later ho walked Into tho
storo U8 straight an a string and hand
cd mo a dollar saying 'glvo mo anoth-
er bottlo of Chamborlaln's Pain Balm.
I want It In tho houso ull tho time
or It cured me.'" For sale by City
