the bill.

recelvo mileage 10 cents a mllo each
way. and not to exceed 1 per day

SNAKE INDIAN BREAKS JAIL.

Monday night a Snako Indian by the
nnme of Phillip Ferryman came to
town and In company with a couplo of
half-breed outlaws proceeded to get
drunk and shoot up tho town.
They went to a low roBort Just out
side of tho corporation line where thoy
beenmo engaged In a rough and tum-
ble fleht In which about thirty HliotH
were fired. A white man name not
known was badly beaten over tho
head with a six-shooter. Later the
crowd ran to the woods.
I'orrymnn ventured hack Into town
ho was promptly arrested by Deputy
Marshal Founds. The next morning ho
was talion beforo Mayor Kellogg and
as no weapon was found on him ho
was glvon ton dollars and costs on
tho charge of drunkonness anil disor-
derly conduct. Not having tho money
he waB sent to Jail last night some
person supposed to bo a Snako Indian
from Hickory UtundH passed somo
sharp Instrument through tho window
of tho Jail with which Ferryman dug
tho mortar lrom between tho rocks
nnd escaped. Tho camp of the Snake
Indians is at Hickory Grounds four
miles south of here nnd It Is supposed
ho has gone to that place.
Marshal Wright and his force of
deputies aro keeping n careful watoh
for any-demonstration on tho part of
tho Indians.
