Trains Into Lawton.
' Lawton 0-T. Aug. 19. Trains
will be running into Lawton with
in fifteen days. A party of Chica
go Rock Island & Pacific officials
were in town Saturday and made
this announcement before leaving.
The highest priced business lots
have now been sold. The northwest
corner lot of block 49 ju?t across
from the courthouse brought $1-
300. The persons who bought
want to lease the vacant lot at $30
a month for a year and will prob-
ably get it. The mining fever
is at white heat here- Claims are
being staked on the townsite- One
person reported tbat while camping
for supper northeast of Lawton a
hole was dug in the ground with a
hatchet for a fireplace and tbat it
filled up with oil immediately
which furnished fire to cook the
evening meal.

flcncral .MacArthur Is at Home and
Talks Freely.
San Francisco. Aug. 19. Gen-
eral MaeArtbur who arrived today
on the transport Sheridan from
Manilla talked freely regarding
the situation in the Philippines-
Ile said very satisfactory condi-
tions existed on the islauds. The
campaign is practically confined to
scouting and an occasional move
ment in force against the large
party. The conditions in the
provinces are much improved.
There is great freedom of move
ment throughout Northern Luzon
where the insurrection has been
dead for some time. There is
every reason to suppose that with-
in a short time the whole archipel-
ago will be safe for travelers.
