Ada I. T.. Jnne 10. Ada l a groat
slace tor obIIdri.
It Is a wonder tbo people of Ada
de earthing btu RettlnR np plonlc
iloae n&tare bas provided them with
to many tempting pUobs (or sueh
purposes. How can tbey resist and
devote their time to the ordinary
routine and drudgery of every day
life when nature is doing ber beet to
invite them out?
8be bas put on her newest and
nrettlest green gown and wltb her
sweetest smiles she Is enticing them
out Into tbe woods.
Suppose we accept tbo invitation
just to see for ourselves what It Is
like. First we must securo a strong
high buggy and a careful driver be-
cause while tbo road we are going
to take is most picturesque It Is not
ezaotly smooth. There are rooky
places and stumps and also water
and It Is up and down all tho time
often down pretty rapidly. One
thing Is certain wo do not have to
go long dreary miles before reach-
ing the shady woods; we have
scarcely left town and bahold wo
are there already.
How cool and restful It Is. As wo
drive ou It gets more and more beau-
tiful and there Is no monotony about
It; no Indeed It is an evercbanglng
picture Wo pass brooks and springs
hidden in clusters of trees and of tbe
most beautiful green. V.'ocomotoa
broader stream tho water Is clear
and rushes wildly down over a mass
of tumbled rocks and fallon treos;
there are also slono quarries which
furnish tho material for building
stores and ofllces. Hero and tboro
woperooivo tents through tbo thick-
ots showing that there uro a number
of camping parties In tho forost.
Further on we see a very odd look-
ing Indian abode as well as an In-
dian school house; noar by the na-
tives aro holding a camp meeting. It
all looks very novel.
It would seoni that the Indian un-
derstands better than his white
brother how to take advRntago of
naturo's beautiful devolopmont. Ills
dwelling placo If at all posslblo al-
ways stands in some pretty shady
nook. Tho whlto man on tho con-
trary Invariably selects tbo barest
spot of ground ho can find and builds
a town thero. Then he waits patient-
ly for years undor tho glaring
parching sun tho blinding dust for
kls littlo sickly looking troes to
crow up and provldo him with tho
necessary shade.
Tbo farmor takes naturo no ho
finds her making tliobest of what is
already there. Tbo lattor takes
pride in forcing and lighting Im
proving hor often without any ne-
cessity but It la bis wont to do bo.
As wo contlnuo our drivo we are
moro and more charmed. Wo bavo
found so many places whoro wo
would llko to spend tho day that it
Is a serious quostlon which wo will
honor first with our presence Fin-
ally that it will bo at one of the
Hulphur Springs whero tho wator Is
sparkling and as olTonslvo to tho
nostrils as good sulphur wator will
bo. At ono placo tho woods stop
suddonly; for Bomo distance wo
drivo botweon meadows dazzling
with nwoalth of wild lloworo of all
kinds nnd lino Holds of corn and cot-
ton. Wo must stop horo to admlro tho
splendid plcturo that oilers ltsolf to
our astonished oyas. All around
us ami aB far as wo can sou a roll-
ing soa of groon hills which look
llko largo wnvos and gradually van-
ish at tho horizon in tho pink ami
purplo haze of tho sotting sun. Wo
can onlyguzo and gazo and oxolalm:
"How grand!" It is llko a minlaturo
copy of tho black forost in (Jurmany
Hut it is tliua to go baok. Wu
can't boo nil In n day. Wo start
homeward our heads full of picnics
fishing and camping partlos; in fact
wo havo nearly decided to spond tbo
rest of our IIvoh thoro.
When Ada bocomos a city sho will
havo ldoal parks roady mado and
near at band neodlng only moro and
bettor roads.
Mndoed at tlmos wo fool alroady
qulta cltlflod for Instance when wo
read In tho papor that burglaries
havo boon committed safes blown
open and two storos brokon Into If
those aro not modern and 11 u do
sleolo oxcltoments what moro do
you want? That is enough to nmko
tbo haad of any progressiva citizen
swoll with prldo. Howovor such
fueling of conceit soon subsides. Wo
are brought down to oarth ngaJm
with a Jar at tho Bight of Air. Pig
making himsolf tit homo on the
streets and looking upon us bipods
as tho lntrudors. That rominds us
at onco that wo aro still vory young
and green nnd havo no roason as
yet t ) bo so proud.
Don't worry my frlonds tho mil-
sauco is not going to bo tolerated
much longor. Tho pigs will bo rolo-
gstad to whoro thoy bolong. Nor
will tho cows bo allowod forovor to
food upon tho nowly plantod troor
It Is vory probable that it will not bo
a matter of yours with Ada but of
months only
