A Rank Swindle.
Dr. Alex Hume tho spiritualistic
humbug appeared at the opera house
Sunday night to a crowded houso of
victims. His work all the way through
was coarse aud as far from spiritual-
istic seances as night Is from day.
The doctor was shrewd enough to par
tially prepare his audience for disap-
pointment by stating that he simply
proposed to Imitate the work of cole-
brated spiritualistic artists and that
the people could call It humbuglsm or
whatever they liked but that he
called It bread and butterlsm and
that from the size of his audience ho
could see his bread buttered on both
sides for quite awhile In tho future.
The general verdict was that Dr.
Hume is a rank fraud and deserving
to bo let alone by the people wherever
he may go. Tho American people are
too easily humbugged but they seem
to enjoy curslngthc perpetrators after
tholr money Is gone.
W. M. Southworth was iirralgned

In two cases done so tho evidence In-

Intention to defraud. Ho was dis-
charged. Those who attended the lecture on
