For tho first t!m In a long while
the corn market nhotved Independ-
ent strength as compared with
wheat. Oats were steadied by tho
action of corn. Predictions were
current that there would bo nn nc

Weekly Sloel
NEW YORK. Feb. 4. It Is ad-
mltted In tho steol trade that tho
volume of new orders booked dur-
lnsr January was a distinct disap-
pointment. Toward the close of thu
month the demand broadened some
what however and there nre nuf-
flclent evidences of new business In
sight to give tho trado confidence
that a general Improvement In the
vnluma of business Ii not so far
off.
Tho mnrket for pig Iron Is Irregu-
lar and producers aro Inclined to
shade prices to effect sales.
Copper ha remained very quiet.
A little business was placed through
the coppor export association
understood to have been ma'de nt
slight price concessions but gener.
nlly speaking thero has been little
sign of Interest nnd foreign buyers
appear unwilling .to pay over 13H
fas. Telegraph and telephone Inter-
ests and other domestic consumers
are believed to be pretty well cov-
ered for February requirements.
Continued competition by second
hands or some of the smaller pro-
ducers for the small business offer-
ing has led to further price shading
nnd small lots nre now reported
available at around 13 E-X to l.t 3.4
delivered. The larger producers are
awaiting developments.
Tin has been easy with no Im-
provement In consuming demand. A
substantial increaio In tho world's
vlslblo supply has Increased the
weakness and It Is pointed out that
American deliveries of foreign tin
during January wero the heaviest In
15 months.
Lead Is steady without much
change In tho situation except thnt
freight rates from Missouri sections
will be reduced effective February A.
Zinc steady with buyers rather
cautious owing to tho recent reduc-
tion In the freight rate on slab line.
Antimony Is caglor under In-
creased selling pressure nnd light
demand.

election comes nt this time. Is very
grntlfylng because of the fnct that
ho Is the one particular mnn who
can combat a rapidly growing spirit
of antagonism to Tulsa as the cen-

and has been often ttatcd as such
by returned travelers from Mexla.
The same thing occurred when Kl
