V. E. Ilaltitdl has purchased
from the government the old Fort

western part of Oklahoma. The
entire tract with the exception of
two sections in the western part
was purchased and consists of one
whole township of thirty-six sec
lions one-half of another township
and one-fourth of another aggre-
gating nearly forty thousand ucrea.
The land is watered by the Cana-

numerous minor; streams. It is
situated in Woodward county.west

Henry Fitch a younp; fnrmer living
at Mountain End invited death for
himself and his t wo oxen the other day
by whlRtlintf cays the St. LouIh lpub
:ic lotinfr Fltoh 1 a whiKt.lerofmuch
ability. lie hits whistled at every furm-
house and every (rntherlnjrin the nolg-h-
horhood and when he is whistling no
body cares to listen to a piano violin
flute guitar or bunjo.
The other day Fitch wasr plowing in
the field plowing and whistllntr. Two
lek sdepy oxen were drawing the
plow aad neither they nor Fitch paid
any attention to anything' but the
plowing a.nd whistling. Presently c
swarrn of thousnnds of honey bees hov
ered over them. There was no use to
run still les to fight them nnd Fitch
kept on whistling nnd plowing while
the bees settled softly upon him and
the oxen. They seemed friendly enough
as.long as Fiteh-whistled and Fitch ad-
mits that he was willing to whistle aa
long as they remained friendly and
seemed inclined to listen.
Fitch continued to plow along.- His
patch led toward his home where he
could see his mother in 'the j-ard. He
caught the talis of the oxen and held
them so the beasts might not anger the
bees by switching them. For the dis
tance of half a mile he held those1 two
ox tails and whistled. His mother
looked tip and saw him. He and his
oxen looked like they might be civ-
ered with a soft brown fur. Fitch
sitopped whistling just long enough to
say "bees" and then continued histeum
without the bees realizing that he had
dropped a note.
Mrs. Fitch acted at onee. She knew
something of bees and realized that
unless she got them hived in short or-
der they would probably sting her son
to death. For she argued that he oould
iwt keep on whistling forever. So she
got a huge tin pan and began beating
it vigorously. The bees stirred uneasily
at this interruption of their concert
but they did not sting and: after a
few moments every one of them rose in
the air and started toward t-he tin pan.
Mrs. Fitch led the way to an empty
hive which had luckily been prepared
for another swarm and by dint of
much beating and coaxing got all the
bees into it. ; .
Fitch stopped whistling sat down
flat on the ground and mopped hisfaee'
The sileek Inzy oxen switched their tails
vigorously to make up for lost time.
