Thla la but one of a thousand lllim-

ahow how the tariff affects the coat of
living.
Here la another aample illuatratlon
for the tariff arithmetic clans which
la composed of aome 90000000 Amer-
' lean consumers all of whom are more
or lent dlaxatlaned with the awful In-
crease In prices:
A suit of clothes having an Import
price of $10 and which coata an Eur-
llahman $10 when ready to put on all
wool and tailor made pnya at the dia-
tom house an ad valorem tariff of 80
per cent or H per suit .making the
' ault mt the American when It la put
on $1S disregarding tranatKtrtatlon
and retail profits.
Another comparison: An Kngllsh
woman carpeting a room 18 feet
square with Ingrain carpet two ply
would be 110 yards at ft dollar a yard
flat or would pay $'!'. An American
woman using the same carpet would
pay $2376 .tariff at the custom house
which would make the carpet cont her
$."9.78.
Why Prices Are High.
