burg went to a big town hall says the

affair was over he was called on for

gossip without appearing to reprove
the gossipers or being In the least
degree priggish herself. She has a
positive genius for discovering agree
able traits in the most unlikeable
people. Tell her that a certain yonng
man is lazy and will never amount
to much in this world and she will
almost surely tell you that this same
man is an invalid.
All her young friends may laugh
and ridicule the manner in which Miss
Fleming (who has more years than
charms to her credit) dresses her
hair striving to look young again.

The Brooklyn Daily Eagle recently
jf asked the prominent school men in
t the different parts or the United
States to name live leading Cnlted
States educators worthy of special
commendation. The returns to their
inquiry were prompt and hearty. Strat-
ton D. Brooks president of the uni-
versity of Oklahoma ranked second
in the list and was designated as 'The
school man with nerve."

Superintendent W. A. Brandenburg
of Oklahoma City will give the address
to the graduates of the university at
its summer convocation. There will
be eight or ten. The exercises will
occur on the evening of August 9th.
The university offices are very busy
these days sending out information
about the university and answ ering in-
quiries from all over the state. These
inquiries number sometimes as high
as sixty in one mail and Secretary
Newby says that the indications for a
big enrollment next fall are excellent.
He has set 1200 as the mark to be
reached next year and is confident
that this is not too high an estimate.

that the -Ministerial Association has
endorsed certain candidates for office
to be voted for at the primary next
week. As president of the Ministerial

The huckleberry or whortleberry
or bilberry has always been well
known. The Scots eat them with
milk ns we do. but they also make a
jelly out of tbern which is flavored
with whisky.-
Cranberries can be found all over
tire world where there is marshy land
but those of the Cnlted States are
considered the best and are exported
in great numbers to Europe.
The mulberry was cultivated bv the
ancients and has played a more im
portant part in literature than anv
orlier berry. It Is mentioned several
tlnie-s in the Itlble. while Ovid sneaks
of It In his famous tale of "Pvramus
and Thisbe."
The mulberry was hrought from

Under and by virtue of petition
signed by more than Twenty-five per
cent of the duly qualified electors in
the City of Vinita Oklahoma initiat-
ing an Ordinance of the City of Vinita
Oklahoma to locate a bridge to be
built across Bull Creek fixing the lo
cation thereof across Bull Creek on
Tahlequah Avenue and Whereas by
Resolution of the City Council the lo
cation of said Bridge was fixed across
Bull Creek on Sequoyah Avenue and
said Initiated Ordinance seeks to
amend the Resolution of the City
Council fixing the location of said
Bridge therefore the undersigned as
Mayor of the City of Vinita Oklahoma
hereby calls a special election to be
held in the City of Vinita Oklahoma
on the Sixth day of August 1912 for
the purpose of submitting to the
qualified electors resident of said City
the question of the adoption of said
nitiated Ordinance and the question
of the location of said Bridge.
