IS A HOLE.
The Oklahoman still refuses to concede that It Is
wrong in its assertion that a revision of the tariff will
destroy the trusts. The Oklahoman says that in ad-
mitting that some trusts are assisted by the tariff The
Chieftain has conceded the Democratic proposition that
the tariff Is the mother of all trusts. If that is a sam-
ple of the Oklahoman's logic of course nothing more can
be said; it is useless to try to reason with an animal that
can't reason.
If the Oklahoman or any Democrat big or little
great or small red or white would Just step forward
leave off his wild vaporings for a moment come down to
concrete Instances and tell how a revision of the tariff
will in any way affect the railroad trust the oil
trust the beef trust or how it will destroy the
steel trust the sugar trust the coffee trust then The
Chieftain will cheerfully accede to the Oklahoman's con-
tention that the revision of the tariff will destroy all pri-
vate monopolies.
But. until these stubborn facts are explained can we
be blamed for thinking that the Oklahoman is merely
"making a most gauzy bluff in the effort to conceal a
mighty poor hand? Please dear Oklahoman won't you
tell us in plain specific terms how the removal of the
tariff will dtstroy the railroad trust? Please do if you

may be built) will be an improvement
which cannot be measured in money. It will be absc-
lutely unique in this country and its architectural beauty
and central location will make it a big factor in the fu-1
ture upbuilding of this city.
All those who have assisted in any way in this work 1
are entitled to the thanks of the citizens of Vinita but
especial praise is due Judge Parker who has been untir-
ing in his efforts to make the enterprise a success and
has given to it generously of his time money and influ-
ence. Blessed is the man who worketh for the upbuild-
ing of his town.

A MORAL QUALIFICATION.
The Chieftain does not believe in an educational
qualification for voting. Some good honest citizens
cannot read or write: they liave been denied the privi-
lege of an education. Is that any reason why they
should not vote? On the other liand some of the mean-
est scoundrels in the country are well educated.
Bather than an educational qualification The Chief-
tain favors a moral one. such as is now in force in In-
diana. If a law is enacted disfranchising those who sell
their votes those citizens only are struck from the vot-
ing list who are undeserving of a place there and none
others are injured. It doesn't make a bit of difference
what a man's color is black white or red if he sells his
vote he ought to be disfranchised.

If Vinita is to have the most beautiful amusement
resort in the new state the new auditorium does not
the town deserve a fine new hotel? Who will be the
benefactor to supply this pressing necessity? He will be
richly rewarded not alone with thanks and gratitude
but with abundant coin of the realm.

The Quinton Pioneer a Democratic paper is working
strenuously for prohibition. The poor Pioneer hasstray-
ed from the path. The Democratic party is fighting
prohibition for the new state with ali its power as may
be seen from a reference to the advertising and editorial
columns of the Oklahoman. And the Oklahoman is the
mouthpiece of Chairman Dunn of the state committee.
The Pioneer is certainly in a unique position.
It s impossible for The Chieftain to pleas the town
knocker. Its latest cause for complaint is that The
Chieftain is too generous to its subscribers giving awav
maps for whsch other papers charge money. Isn't that
an awful charge?
The agitation for the resurrection of the band is
decidedly apropos. Wtth all these parks and amuse-
ment places Vinita sadly needs a band. By all means
let's get it to going again.
Don't forget that the farmers Institute occurs Sat-
urday August 25. Be there by all means.
Tulsa is agitating for a county fair at that place.
Vinita ha done nothing towards securing a county fair
at this plac! the center of the richest county in the
new state.
