friends here last night while on her

sale south of town yesterday. They
report a big crowd present and stc-k

Dr. C. M. Ross of Tahlequah is in
the city today arranging to move his
family here in the near future to
make their future home. The people
of Vinlta welcome this estimable
family to our fold.
Lucian Buffington (col) was arrested
by Officer Sam Burns yesterday for
selling whiskey. He had a hearing be-
fore Judge Farrar and gave bond for
$500 for his appearance before the
grand jury next Monday.
D. II. Behrlng and a man named
Glesson were brought in from Bar-
tlesville this morning by Deputy Wil-
liams charged with Introducing.
Their bond was fixed at 1100 which
they gave for their appearance before
the court at Brrtlesville. -
Mr. Bradley an oil man of Chelsea
is In town today on business.
C. W. Squires of Galena Kas. is
registered at the Cobb today. -
M. L. Starkey of Blackwell Okla.
is registered at the Green today.
Mrs. C. A. Davidson and two sons
will leave next week on ao excursion
to New Mexico and California.
Miss Sallie Ridgwell left for St.
Louis last night to attend Barnes'
Business college.
The rainy spell today brought on
ducks in large numbers and local
hunters are getting busy.

Vlnita High school football teams will
engage in a match game at Sportsman
park tomorrow afternoon at 3:30. Ad-

City a cousin of William J. Bryan
was in the city today on his way to Ft.
Worth Texas. Mr. Bryan is an old
Warrensburg boy.
Comanche county boasts of a man
who shot three burley bears in one
small pecan tree this week with his
old squirrel rifle. Don't let the pres
ident hear about it; it might make
him mad.
The South Dakota man who blew
himself up by using 25 sticks of dyn-
amite when one would have been
enough must have had an exaggerated
idea o himself as some people do
when they think they must meddle
into somebody els's business to keep
the world from going to ruin.

tus in Dixie" Company that comes to
the Auditorium Oct. 29th are said to

singers dancers and comedians
genuinely capable and clever enough
to keep their audience In a state of
of hilarity and thorough enjoyment
from the the rise to the fall of the

"The Sweetest Girl in Dixie" pleas-
ed an audience of goodly size at the
Bijou Theatre Thursday night when
the play was presented for the first
performance of a three-night engage-
ment. The play of which the scene
is laid in the south is interesting.
It is called an idyll of the Southland
and is written by a southern woman
Miss Freda Slemons a daughter of
Congressman Slemons of Arkansas.
Its leading characters are a southern
colonel and his daughter two faithful
old negroes a carpetbagger and his
sister and a distant cousin of the
southern girl. They are involved in a
plot in which there is an interming-
ling of pathos and humor. Mont

This popular play will appear at t he
Auditorium Theatre tonight.

Guthrie Ok. Oct 21 Following a
two years' fight in the local courts
the suit instituted by Mrs. Carrie Na-
tion the hatchetex of Guthrie for
$10000 damages against the Daily
Leader has been dismissed the de-
murrer of Senator Leslie G. Nlblack
editor-owner of the Leader being sus-
tained. Mrs. Nation took offense be-
cause the Leader published'nn article
that she owned a Guthrie building in
which was established a wholesale
liquor house.
