If that supreme court decision was
so pleasing to Governor Haskell what
in the devil is he bo mad about?
Say! the discrepancy in the vote
cast at the capital removal election
June 11th and that registered for the
August primary is painful at Oklahoma

On the eve of election the indications
point strongly to the nomination of
Lee Cruce for governor. The thought-
ful conservative element of the peo-
ple in all parts of the state have reach-
ed the conclusion that the state needs
a rest from the spectacular frothy
wild and reckless tendencies of the
Bill Murray type of men. Lee Cruce
Is a clean strong brainy man that is
not likely to go off at a tangent.
i o
Some of Lee Cruce's opponents have
tried to create prejudice against him
because he has been a banker. Now-
let us see if this experience should
disqualify him. The governor is
chairman of the school land commis
sioners who have in charge the in
vestment of the permanent school fund
amounting to several million dollars.
This is the school children's money.
Do you think a knowledge of bank
ing and finances would help the gov
ernor in the investment and safe
keeping of these funds? The state has
money on deposit in perhaps !(H) dif
ferent banks of the state. Will not
a knowledge of banking be a valuable
asset in the list of capabilities of our
chief executive? Cruce has had more
experience as a farmer than as a
backer but really laying all prejudice
aside will not his banking experience
be of mors vshie to the state when he
is governor tu?n was his farming ex
perience? !
Now let every good citizen assist in
having a clean fair election tomorrow.
Let no man say Justly that any un
fairness has been practiced at any
polling place in Craig county.

the 'yilners agree today to continue to
woi'k on the contract to settle the
strike in the southwest as provided in
the agreement which started the con
ference negotiations between theiu
and the operators will be declared off.
This is the substance of the con
tents of an untimatum submitted to
the miners by the operators for an
swer today. The operators it is said
will insist that President Lewis of the
United Mine Workers return and the
formation of the contract interrupted
last week by objections from the min-
ers be continued. The conference
committee representing the miners is
expected to answer the ultimatum of
the operators this afternoon.

People Will Know Results
of Primary Tuesday Night
Oklahoma City Okla. Aug. 1. By
midnight Tuesday. Chairman Bran-
son of the democratic state executive
committee believes sufficient returns
will be in at the Oklahoma City head-
quarters to Indicate who has . been
nominated on the democratic ticket
for governor. Counting of the votes
in precincts begins at 10 a. m. of the
primary election day and as rapidly
as ballots are tallied the boxes sire
reported and the count continues.
Tickets of four political parties are
to be handled only two of them how-
ever being full for state offices while
a third is practically so. Returns are
reported to the county election boards
at county seats beginning at 5 p. m.
and from the county boards they go
officially to the state election board.
Chairman Branson has arranged for
county reports to the state commit-
tee as early Tuesday night as reason-
ably authentic returns warrant.
Friends of Murray' and Cruce at the
various polling places will telegraph
here Tuesday night and by an early
hour Wednesday morning they ex-
pect to be able to forcast the result
of the day's voting with reasonable
certainty.
Only one day is left for active cam
paigning. Murray terminates his
campaign Monday night in Coal coun-
ty and goes to Tishomingo to vote.
Cruce will be a feature at a home-
coming demonstration in Ardmore
Monday night and Ross will finish in
southwestern Oklahoma being in easy
distance of Lawton his voting place.
Kirk is out of the running having so
announced early In the week yet his
name is on the official ballot. If it
should happen that Kirk received a
majority of the votes he could claim
the nomination notwithstanding his
withdrawal. In democratic ranks the
total party primary vote is estimated
at 130000. to 150000.

claims in figures for their candidates.
In a statement issued today the Ross
people say he will be nominated and
resent the assertion which they claim
emanates from friends of Governor
Haskell that he (Ross) has no chance
to win A good part of the state ad-
ministration fs recognized by them- as
being for Cruce and the story of the
Lowton man's alleged weakness Ross
people assert fs for the purpose of
stampeding voters away from their
man. The statement in part is other-
wise as follows:
"Differences between factional lead-
ers in the democratic party over the
candidacy of Murray and Cruce have
gone to such an extent that thought-
ful democrats must seriously consider
whether either of them can be elect-
ed if nominated. It is time for think-
ing voters of the democratic party
to turn aside from the wars of politi-
cians and select men for office who
have neither friends to reward nor
enemies to punish ft the expense of
the taxpayers and we believe the peo
ple will see the advantage of it and
nominate Ross. Ross is big enough
to be governor of the whole state
rather than of a faction and he will
spend his time in the service of the
people and not in building a person
ai machine."
; The statement calls attention to the
fact that William Jennings Bryan only
carried Oklahoma two years ago by
about 11000 plurality. The Cruce
people declined to make a pre-election
statement but privately expect a
plurality for the Ardmore candidate.
