whose tlrst thought shall be not to cram the mind with
the dry facts that mean nothing but to Instill Into the
young minds entrusted to their guidance the deep and
abiding principles of truth and love without which all
.45 education is worse than useless.
In society there must be the realization that while
MS social Intercourse Is good it must be merely the means
towards the great end of serving our neighbor not sim-
11.00 ply diversion for our own amusement.
.25 And in the home especially self must be forgotten en-
ZZ tirely and the life of the man and woman must be con-
secrated wholly to the guiding aright of those precious
souls whose lives in after years will make the world
better or worse.
Christ's life on earth touched all lives. His life now
must also touch all life. Necessary as Si consecration to
trie work of the church just as necessary is consecration
to all work. It is an ideal so high that none of uscan real-
ize it. here on earth but towards its realization we must
all strive. And in proportion as we approach it our
own lives will be lifted up and the lives of those about
us made more beautiful.
CONSECRATION.
" was the topic yesterday of more than
e time of year is upon us when .ve are
led to think again most solemnly
ly existence of that Man whot
consecrated that though almost
who are
lie end of the earth-
fe was so supremely
steen hundred years
e Ills death and resurrection His words
le are still the guide everywhere of men
to live up to the highest ideal which
has ever been concived sacrlllce of self In service to
others.
Hut there is always too much of a tendency to limit
consecration to the church entirely. Tills should not be.
Most men and women can spend but little of their time in
actual church work while they must labor long and
hard at what they are prone to regard as secular pur-
suits. Put what this world needs especially is men and
women who will be consecrated not only on Sundays and
in the church but on Mondays and wherever they go
In polit ics today America needs consecration needs
menwholike Joseph W. Folk with a high sense of the re-
sponsibility which Christ has laid upon them will go
out and fight with all their mind and all their strength
and in contempt of all threats for their Ideals of public
In business today the world needs men whos'i tlrst
thought shall be not of money not of how tflieir com-
petitors may be crushed but of how in the every day
details of business the weaker brother the brother with
little opport unity and small means may be given some
of the blessings which lie seems to have been denied.
In education today the world needs men and women
SOMETHING TO FIGHT.
What would the party organs of Vlnlta do if they
had not The Chieftain to light? Both by common con-
sent seem to have abandoned all interest in the cam-
paign save in hulling huge chunks of epithet at this un-
offending newspaper. All of which goes to prove that
the average yeno.v dog of either party would rather any
thing else in the world should happen than that
the people should get it into their heads that men and
not platforms or party names are what count in munici-
pal politics.
In order that the people may not forget here are the
names again of those Republicans wnose votes could
have given us statehood last week but whose courage
was not eqqal to their promises: Campbell Powersock
Curtis Miller and Murdock of Kansas Ellis Shartell
KepplerBrown and Bartholdt of Missouri. If you know
any of them or anyone who does write to them and try
to bring them back to their duty.
Brother Murphy is privileged to do anything else with
us that he pleases without disturbing our good humor.but
when he decends to the base ingratitude of "Major" Mc-
Clintock it is too too much! What has the meek and
humble scribe of this paper ever done to deserve such
treatment as the infliction of a military title?
Tax Collector C. J. Hunt makes one of the best re
ports made by an outgoing collector. He has shown
himself an efficient officer. The finances of the city will

The Climate's the Thing in
San Antonio
The invigorating air dry and wannjthe
altitude: the perfect natural drainage all
combine to make the temperature as near-
ly perfect as can be. It is possible to
spend most of each day from November
to March 1st out-doors. The parks and
plazas the margins of the creeks and riv-
ers the groves of palm and magnolialose
nothing of their lustrous green during the
winter months.
San Antonio is of all America the odd-
est blending of modern utility and beauty
with the romance and heroism of the me-
dieval. Come to San Antonio! The exception-
ally low rates the excellent train service
and accommodations via the M. K. & T.
Ry makes it a journey of but small cost
and not of tiresome length. I want you
to read "The Story of San Antonio." I'll
send it on request. Once read I'm sure
you'll be more than half convinced that
you should be the guest of San Antonio
this winter. Address
