The cry that no treaty s needed
comes from those who have not
the good of the masses at heart.
Such a cry at this time will not be
heeded and has few indorBers.
There has been no definite steps
taken in the organization of the
commercial club that wiis started
some weeks ago. The failure in
this matter at Ibis time will be
little less than a calamity.
While the town is getting impa-
tient at the delay in lie work on
the electric light plant no unfair
advantage should be taken of
the company. They are the chief
losHers in the matter and will no
doubt turn on the "lights at the
earliest possible moment.

scribed and fitted glasses for thou-
sands of men women and children

ureat number of the leading citizens
including several leading doctors of
Vinita who can also testify to his
s ability as a flrstclass optician. Noth-
ing like his success was evtr before
known in this territory. He has
given sight and comfort to thousands
. after others had failed. Dr.
vWaldniaon uses the latest improved

The May term of the federal
court at this place is drawing to a
close. Wednesday afternoon it
will be adjourned bo fur as jury
trials are concerned.
The Stubblefield murder case
was closed with the argument ol
the attorneys Saturday night and
the case w given to the jury. On
the opening of court today the jury
had not agreed and were eenj back
to further deliberate upon it.
The murder caees of Mulatto and
Birdheadtwo fullblood Seminoles
were cotitined and 'transferred to
Wewoka.
J J. Sisson of Tulsa and Dr. D.
M. Pate of Checotah plead guilty
to the charge of returning to the
Indian country after having been
-jected by the Indian police act
ing under orderu from the Interior
department. They wera allowed
to go Iree by paying the court
costs which amounted to 857 in
the case of Dr. Pate and $20.60 for
J. J. Sieson. They were pledged
to comply with the tax laws of the
Creek nation in the future.
The verdict of acquittal in the
Stubblefield case meets general
approval. The lawless element in
every town are the people who
giv the officers of the law trouble.
The quiet peaceable law-abiding
citizen has no trouble with the
city marshal and when the hood-
lums attempt to interfere they
take their lives in their hands and
if they get killed the responsibil-
ity is with them. It is the duty
of every good citizen to uphold the
officers of the law in the proper
discharge of duty..
Some Cherokee citizens are com-
plaining that the attorneya for the
nation are not showing due dili-
gence in the matter of the enroll-
ment of freedmen.
The jury in the Stubblefield case
returned a verdict of acquittal
shortly before noon today. .
