Four hundred and eight years
ago today Christopher Columbus
discovered America.
The order of the interior depart
ment relating to the cutting of
timber is about the most bungling
and unreasonable of any that has
emanated from that department
in recent years. The Cherokees
own the land and the timber and
have had the use of it tor three
quarters of a century and now
comes the interior department and
makes it a penal offense for an In-
dian to sell a load of stove wood.
THE PRESS EXCURSION.
The Chickasha Daily Express
edited by our old friend A. M.
Dawson has the best and in fact
the only write-up we have yet seen
of the editorial excursion. Among
other things he says:
"The association was slimly at-
tended but was earnest and en-
thusiastic. The committee on re-
ception was not exactly what it
ought to have been but the town
was small and easily managed by
the incoming membero without as-
sistance. After the usual routine
business of the day the association
was given a banquet in the opera
mihii wmca consisted oi a regal
supper interspersed with ppefcti-
es lrom editors citizens and dis-
tinguished men.
"At Vinita we were quartered
at the Cobb house where we were
given the best and found it a first
cUfs house. The rain ar.d uud at
Vinita prevented our seeing much
of the city. It has a population ot
about 4000 people located in a
fine agricultural region and enjoys
a good trade. The streets and

as in Chickasha whhh is sorry

Magazines Combined.
It was au noticed sometime ago that
a new magazine entitled The Educa-
tional Enterprise would be issued
November 1st by Miss Laura A. Eow-
laml of Fort Gibson I. T. However
Miss Rowland has recently purchased
a half Interest in Twin Territories
that popular territorial magazine
established at Muskogee over two
years agoand The Educational Enter
prise will be combined with Twin
Territories the two continuing to be
published undo? the name Twin Ter
ritories. Miss Rowland will travel
n the interest of the magazine and

doubt make a big success of Twin
Territories.
