J. C. Starr is being prominently
mentioned us the Downing nomi-
nee for the Cherokee senate from
Delaware district for the west
side of the river. Starr is a ca
pable young Cherokee and de
serves the honor.
One month from today the qual-
ified voters of the Cherokee na-
tion will go through the formality
of holding an election to vote upon
Jbe treaty. It is conceded every-
where that it will be rejected and
it is only a matter of majorities
against it.
There seems to be a mistaken
idea in many quarters that the
Curtis law makes it a penalty for
a Cherokee citizen to hold more
than 80 acres of land. There is no
uch provision in the Curtis bill
11 is tne rule ol the secretary of
the interior that fixes the stand-
ard of allotments at 80 acres.
In the scramble for municipal
offices there ia never a word said
about the issue in fact there is no
it-sue only the betterment of the
town. The man who attempt
any other course lacks sense. We
all want or should want the same
thing viz: A bigger and a better
town.
There ia a growing demand
tverjwbere for Louse and kitchen
of labor is made secondary. With
men and boys no such a condition
exists and the humblest boy may
work his way to the highest posi-
tion. For all pulmonary troubles Ballard's
Horebound Syrup;taken in the early
stages proves a certain and sure spe-
cific. It is equally effective In croup
and whooping cough and if used in
season prevents the further develop-
ment of consumption. Price 2j and
5o cents. Peoples drug store. dw
