If the Arkansas river had half as much water in it as
some of the stock of oil companies and ot her companies
in that city there would be no occasion for doubt about
tide-water navigation.
The highest priced car of horses ever sold on the Kan-
sas City market were sold yesterday. The car con-
tained 10 head and the average price was $251.51 a head.
The highest price paid was $275.
All the discussion anent-future conditions In the
Indian Territory must necessarily revolve around the
single proposition of land titles. Statehooh itself de-
pends upon the removal of restrictions.
The dome of that million dollar state capital has
again appeared as a mirage to delude the optics of Mus-
kogee people. Col. Owen has passed the word around
that separate statehood will give Muskogee the capital
and !s a bare possibility. Then the Timrs and Demo-
crat print a long string of meaningless interviews show-
ing that the business men of that city desire separate
statehood. Thsi boomlet for statehood for Indian Ter-
ritory will not survive the spring winds and will hardly
escape the confines of Muskogee. The rest of the coun-
try is satisfied as is also the president and both houses of
congress
The most Important matter that confronts thu Indian ;
Territory and especially the Cherokee Aatlon is the re-
moval of restrictions upon the title to the lands. The
Indian Territory can never hope for that degree of pros-
perity that is desired until lauds are not only on the
maket but taxable. The source and foundation for the
bulk of all legitimate-taxation is the land. With little
taxable land the personal taxes will necessarily be very
high. Town property will have an onerous burden to
bear in this country until lands are taxable in general.
In the early years of Oklahoma's history the taxes on
city property was so high that thousands of lots in the
towns were yielded up for taxes. Such a condition can
easily be foreseen in the Indian Territory and more
especially in view of the fact that we are soon to have
statehood with its inevitable expense. Independant
statehood for the Indian Territory alone would be sim-
ply disastrous to the business interests of the country.
Oklahoma has taxable lands and will bear much of the
burden that otherwise would have to be met by a tax on
personal property. The war cry of commercial clubs and
business organizations throughout this territory should
be remove the restrictions on all Indian lands save
homesteads and make such land immediately taxable.
When the government ceases to pay the expenses of our
courts and of government generally in the Indian Ter-
ritory it will have to be paid - by taxing the property of
the people. The more property we have that is taxable
the lower will be our own rate of taxat ion and it will
therefore be to the interest of the Indians themselves to
make the lands taxable at the earliest possible moment.
The present indications are that we will have statehood
a year hence and will thenceforth have to pay our own
bills. The removal of restrictions on Indian allotments
is imperative.

ON THE" FUTURE OF OZONE
Chief Application Thus Far Has Been
In Sterilization of Air Water
Foods Etc.
Although ozone la a substance which
is present in the air in relatively minute
quantity yet it is possible that its fu
ture in metallurgy both dry and wet
may be greater than would be common-
ly believed at present says the En-
gineering and Mining Journal. It is
interesting to note the many methods
for generating ozone among which may
be mentioned the use of heat the use
of chemicals (barium dioxide potas
sium permanganate etc.) the action of
gradual oxidation the action of elec-
trolysis the influence of the silent elec-
tric discharge and even the action of
the newer radio-active substances. The
chief application of ozone thus far has
been in the direction of sterilization of
ail water foods etc. in the oxidation
and reduction of coloring substances
perfumes and the like; but. If the event
ual result should be the production
of cheap ozone who can tell what it
may not do for metallurgy?
The necessity of noting the influence
of the humidity In the atmosphere has
been well shown by James Gayley's
notable experiments on dry air blast. It
certainly will be Interesting to observe
what the experimenter and the practi
tioner will do with ozone In metallurgy.
Croup is quickly relieved and

Long Distances in Florida.
We often laugh at the Ignorance of
Europeans as to distances In this coun-
try. We sometimes display as much
ignorance ourselves when we speak of
distances in Florida and Texas. Aland
trip from one end of Florida to the other
is as long as from the grat likes to the
gulf. A citizen of Maine who makes up
his mind to go south may pass through
Maine New Hsmpshire Massacbusptts
Connecticut New York New Jersey
Pennsylvania Delaware Maryland the
District of Columbia and far into Vir-
ginia without taking any longer ride
than he would take in goiug from one
Florida town to another. And yet some
people complain of the llow t!i ma le
