RRBEDIKG ANARCHY.
An Atlanta newspaper Democratic offers 11000 to
any white man who will catch and lynch a negro crimi-
nal in that city. The third lynching in ten days has
just occurred in South Carolina. Are the southern peo-
ple really proud of tle facta? Or do they really aym-
path tie with such actions: are these lynching not rath-
er the work of a hoodlum element that is disgracing the
fair name of t he south'
They are beasts these negroes? True: but are the
southern white men to be degraded also to brutesV Xo
man can wantonly hang burn tort ue a fellow creature
though that creature be the blackest ugliest most
lothsome fiend in human flesh without losing much of
his own manhood thereby.
As iynchings increase so does the crime that causes
lynching. Lawlessness always lias and always will
breed lawlessness. The more negroes the south burns
the more negroes will need burning. And the moie
burnings there are. the lower will the white population
of the south sink from the high plane of real manhood.
For the negroes guilty of the crime for which they
are killed The Chieftain has not the slight

Seymour Riddle doesn't wait the presidency another
term. If there is any way of making him change his
mind. Trie Chieftain thinks it should b? all means be
done. Not that ttiere are no others in ViniU competent
for the olace. but that Mr. Kiddle has done such eice'-l
lent work for Vinita and is so plainly the right man for
the presidency that it will be impossible for theclub to
improve oo him. and it might do much worse.
This is a critical year for Violta. and the right sort
of man is needed at the head of the Commercial club.

SOME LIFE LEFT.
Interest in Vinita s northwest road is certainlynot
dead. J. E. Henderson is back trying to revive his pro
ject and besides him there are two other parties Ugur
ing on the proposition. That road must and will be
built and the probability is it will be built soon.
As far as the people of Vinita are concerned they
don't care who builds it. and they don't care so very
much where it goes BarfJesville. Caney or Coffeyville
What they want is the road in operation just as soon as
possible. They will give all three propositions a fair
hearing and play no favorits. The first mantolbegin
laying steel ought to secure the bonus.

sympathy: they are richly deserving of death. It's the
white men for whom The Chieftain is thinking: each
terrible lynching whether In the north or in the south
means just that many more white men have lost their
proud title of gentlemen and have become beasts to pun-
ish beasts. How long can t lie nation stand the strain?

The Democrats of the Indian Territory have over-
looksd a bet. Jeff Davis they have secured it is true
to tour the territory in the coming campaign but they
cannot claim to have done their utmost until Vardaman
of Mississippi is also put on the stump. But with Var
daman and Jeff Davis both playing the same circuit
particle of where would the Republicans be?

There are many causes in Vinita that need assistance
and not t he least of these is the band. Every business
man and citizen should contribute something each
month to the support of the organization. Vinita needs
a band badly and every little bit helps.
Vinita ' new opera house will be a reality before
many months have passed and the theater-lovers of this
city will then be able to see a good play without going
out of town. That means much and the patrons of the
theater ought to show their appreciation of it by sub-
scribing liberally to the bonus for the first night.
Wonder if in case Colonel John B. Turner is elected
to the supreme bench he will be as greatly in favor of
lawlessness as he showed himself in his speech at
