CONVENTION
St. Louis Nov. 16 The deep water
convention today adopted the name
"Lakes to Gulf Deep Waterways asso-
ciation." Its objects are to urge up-
on all national state and congression-
al conventions irrespective of party

velt left his hotel at 7 this morning

Seattle Wash. Nov. 18 Homeless
and suffering from hunger and ex-
posure and in hourly dread that the
rising waters will still overwhelm
them thousands of residents of the
valley lying between Seattle and Ta-
coma are camping today in the foot-
hills with what few provisions and ef-
fects they could carry in their hurried
flight. Six deaths have been chronicl
ed thus far.
All the valley towns are under
water a depth ranging from eight to
twenty feet. The residents who are
still in the towns have been forced
into the second stories.
Farmer Marooned
1'ortland Ore. Nov. 16 The report
received here last night that the
farmers marooned on an island at the
Junction of the Cowlitz and Columbia
ri vers had been recued by a steamer
sent from Portland proves untrue.
The steamer was unable to reach the
island on account of the drift-wood.
Another steamer started for the scene
today.
HOT FIGHT
IN SALOON
San Francisco Nov. 15 The in-
mates of a saloon in Urannan street
last night fought a pistol duel with
two masked robbers who ordered them
to hold up their hands One of the
robbers Frank Burke an ex-convict
was killed. Stephen Lynch and Louis
Delatour laborers were fatally
wounded and George O'Connell a re-
tired police otlicer who refused to
throw up his hands was shot twice and
seriously wounded. The second rob-
ber was captured.
BISHOP TIGERT
IS VERY SICK
Bishop John J. Tigert of the Meth-
odist church South lies at the point
of death in Tulsa where lie went to
attend the confere v now in session
there. The bishop was ill when he
opened the convention Wednes-
day and was compelled to go to his
bed that afternoon. His condi-
tion is now extremely critical tho his
physician hopes to save his life.
Bishop Tigert is but 49 years old and
was only elected bishop at the con-
ference in Birmingham this spring

LAHOMA BANK
Guthrie Nov. 16 Robbers early to-
day dynamited the safe of the bank
at Lahoma and escaped with 92700 in
cash. The bank had just received
$2000 with which to pay farmers for
cotton. This the robbers overlooked.

Lewis of Philadelphia.
