Miss Alma Beck who has been visiting
friends here left this morning for Miami.
Miss Clara Hughes of the Chieftain
force was sick this morning and unable to

J W. Orr left last night for Oklahoma
City to attend the meeting of the State
Bankers' Asso vation.
Miss Siiyres who has been visiting
Mrs. T. A. Chandler left this morning for
her home at Muskogee
Ora Smith returned this morning from a
trip to Albuquerque and other points in
New Mexico and Arizona.
Mayor Sam Parks left today for Okla-
homa City to attend the meeting of the
Slate Municipal League.
Miss Eva Rutcliff was taken suddenly
ill last night and was unable to return to
Columbia Mo. to attend school.
Jas. S. Davenport and wife will leave
tomorrow for Washington. Robert Iron-
side jr. will accompany them.
Dr. Barton Kite ol Tahlequah left last
evening after a visit here for Kansas City
to resume Ins studies in the Medical col-
lege. Miss Flora Roberts has resigned her
position as stenographer at the county
court the resignation to take eHe t next
Saturday.
Tue preliminary trial of M E. Shi mi
charged with simoiing N. H. Henderson
near Wcie- Wst Monday is set for hear-
ing next Tuesday.

the consequent inability to heat the church
building the prayer meeting at the Con-

Mrs. J. W. Byrd. John Byrd Jr. and
T. H. Byrd went to Neosho last night to
attend the funeral of Mrs. Byrds brother-L-'aw
who died yery suddenly yesterday
morning.

eration of static electricity In German
factories Prof. M. M. Rlchter has
drawn sparks an inch to an Inch and
a half long from a five-inch belt on a
wheel making 10000 revolutions a
minute. The risk of explosion In dust
of gases seems to have been over-
looked. Coating with bronze or
aluminum powder prevented static
charges while a weekly application of
acid-free glycerin was a remedy and
added durability to the leather.

An Ordinance providing for the purchase
of the Vinita Auditorium Building to-
gether with a tract of land one hundred
and fifty feet deep and lying on the
north side of Illinois avenue and extend
ing from the west line of Vann street to
the east line of Wilson street and pro-
viding for calling an election to submit
same to the qualified electors of the
City of Vinita Oklahoma.
W.Vereas it has been ascertained by the
Mayor and Councilmen of the City of Vin-
ha. Oklahoma that it is necessary and
that the public convenience requires that
the Guy of Viniita Oklahoma purchase the
building now known as the Vinita Audi-
torium building located in the City of
Vinita on the north sideof Illinois avenue
and that it is necessary and for the pub
lic beneht that said Cilv of Vinita pur
chase together widi said building the
land upon which the same is located and
a tract of land 150 feet deep lying on the
north side of Illinois avenue and extend-
ing from the west line ol Vann street to
the east line of Wilson street and

by the Mayor ami Councinnen of the City
of Vmita with the Vmita Auditorium
cum puny a coiporation for th purchase
ef said budding for the sum of $28000
and arrangements have been made with
tne St. Louis &. San Francisco Kailroad
Company for the purchase of said land for
the sum of One D.illar. Now. therefore.

cilmen of the City of Vinita Oklahoma :
section 1. That it is hereby declared

requires that the City of Vinita Okla

Sec. 2. That for the purpi S3 of paying

par the negotiable coupon bonds of saiu
city payable twenty years from the dale
tlureof with interest thereon at the rate
oi six pjr cent per annum payable an
nually to the amount ol $28001.00.
Sec. 3- That before said bonus shall be
issued and before suid city shall purchuse
said property aforesaid the question ol
the purchase of said property and the
issuance of said bonds shall be submitted
to the qualihea electors of said city at an
election to be held for such purpose as
hereinafter provided for ami if at such
election a mujority of the qualified elect
ors resident ot the City of Vinita shall
vote in favor of said purchase and the
issuance of said bonds for the purpose
herein set forth the City of Vinita by ito
Mayor and City Council shall thereupon
c-juse said property aforesaid to be j.u-
chased for the consideration above nameu
and shall proceed to cause to be issued
and sold the said negotiable coupon bonds
of said city in the amount and character
a oresaid.
Sec. 4. That the Mayor of the City of
Vinita be and he is hereby directed to
issue a proclamation for an election to be
held on the 9th day of February 1909 at
which election there shall be submitted to
the qualified electors of the City of Vinita
the questions aforesaid and which procla-
mation shall be published for four consec-
utive weeks in the Vinita Leader a
newspaper of bona fide weekly circulation
in said city.
Passed by the City Council of the City
of Vinita Oklahoma this 5th day of Jan-
uary 1908.

Council of the City of Vinita Oklahoma.
and thecity clerk of saidcity hereby certify
that the above and foregoing Ordinance
was duly passed by the City Council of
the City of Vinita on the 1st day of De-
cember 1908; that the sime was vetoed
by the Mayor of said city on the 5th day
of January 1909 and that said ordinance
was passed by the City Council of toe
City of Vi.iita OMa'.ora ove- the
veto of the Mayor by the necessary two-
thirds majority of the Councibnen of said
citv on the 5th day of January 1909.
