shot in the calf of one of his legs at
noon today. Someone shooting at a
dog missed the canine and struck

BASE BALL NEXT WEEK.
Coffeyville Playi Here Wedneday
and Thursday.
A fter a lull of ten days in base bafl
in Vinita it will open up anew next
Tuesday..when the champions will
meet the Coffeyville aggregation at
Falkland and return with them to
Vinita for games - Wednesday and
Thursday. Coffeyville Is the only
team that has had the best or our
boys this Year and we do not fpr .a
moment consider their supremacy
but expect to demonstrate to all that
Vinita still has a just claim to the
championship. Coffeyville won two
out of three games from our boys at
Coffeyyille but we want to go them
one better and make It three straight
when they come here. Next week's
games will be for blood and will un-
doubtedly be a grand exhibition of
ball playing. :
Tulsa is expected here on Friday
and Saturday September 8th and 9th
when we may again expect phenoml-
nal ball playing and Immense crowds.
And on the 12th 13tb and 14th Gale-
na Kas. will be represented here by
her star azcietiation which has won
laurels In all parts of the Sunflower
state.
Sam Ridenhour expects to start
about the 17th of September with his
"Rapid Transit" Perfectos" for a trip
through Oklahoma and secure if pos-
sible the championship of that terri-
tory and on their return they will
meet the Kansas City Blues hee for
a series of games.

Returned From the Klondike.
John L. Bates reached Vinita on
the four o'clock- train this morning
from Alaska. He left Vinita a little
over eighteen months ago and has
had' a marvelous experience in the
snow and in the ice fields of Alaska-
Mr. Bates has been a constant sufferer
from rheumatism while in the frozen
north and has been compelled to use
crutches. When he reached Seattle
be got rid of his rheumatics and
threw away his crutches and Is now
looking quite hearty.
