There is every indication that
the roll the Dawes commission is
making now will include every
UK me that it ought to include
when it is finished. Some are be-
ing put to trouble and expense
but it is only that a clear record
maybe made and that no name
will be placed upon the roll that
ought'nt to be there.
At the rate the Dawes commis-
sion is working taking the ceneus
of the Cherokees the work will be
finished except the freedmen be-
fore the close of the present year.
The work of enrolling the freed-
men will not begin till next spring
and will perhaps occupy the en-
tire spring. If the final report of
the commission is made to the
secretary of the interior next
year it will ' be as soon as it may
be expected. When the present
field work is completed the real
work of making an authentic roll
will begin with the lull commis-
sion sitting.

The applicants for enrollment before
the Dawes commission find the long
distance telephone very conveainent.
The work of the Dawes commission is
samewhat retarded today on account of
the sickness of Major Breckenridge. The
commissions have heretofore occupied a
seperate table and two people could be
enrolled at the same time. -
The number of people at the e Droll-
ing tent of the Dawes commission
early this morning was quite small
compared with last week but later in
the day the usual crowd came in. The
number of the tickets reached now Is
In the neighborhood of - 600 though
many have entered without tickets.
