Owing to an attack of grip Judge
Thomas was absent from the Friday
and Saturday sessions of the Indian
Territory court of appeals.
Mrs. Lee Barrett and daughter and
Miss Bessie Barrett returned Satur-
day evening from Claremore where
they have been visiting Mr. and Mrs.
Jno. C. Barrett.
Miss Fanny Knight gave a dinner
yesterday to a uumber of her friends.

Gray and J. R. Sheehan.

and Mrs. W. W. Miller and Miss Eva

at the morning service yesterday.
Joe Hubbard was bound over in the
commissioners court toaay in suu
bond charged with stealing a horse
from Annie Pittsenbarger. Failing
to furnish bond he was sent to jail.
Dr. Joe Thompson enters a dis
claimer in the patent medicine testi
monial and claims the original pre-
scription was his and that the medi-
cine maker did not come by it fairly.
James Fisk the gunsmith who re
cently went into business with W H.
Wortman went to Southwest City
yesterday and will return with bis
famllv. They will reside in one of
Mr. Patton's houses.
John Yoakum who has for several
vears Dast been encaged in the busi
ness of tinner at Monctt is in town
today looking for a location. Mr.
Yoakum was here some years ago and
is an artist in his line.
Deputies Miller and navely of
South McAlester passed through here
on the Eaty last night with three
prisoners for Columbus Ohio. They
were all sentenced at the last term of
court at South McAlester.
Mrs. Bobt. Allen entertained a few of
her young friends very delightfully at
her home Saturday evening. Music and
cards were the feature of the evening
Elegant refreshments were served and
a most enjoyable evening was spent

Miss Halle Thompson spent Satur-
day nicht at Adair with Mrs. Elzer
Neville formerly Miss Rosa Skinner
who is very ill with pneumonia and
had sent for her. Dr. Bagby went
down last night and holds out little
hopes for the lady's recovery.
Wrecked.
There is a report that last evening's
Eaty train was in a disastrous collis-
ion this noon down in Texas. It is
said as the train was heading into a
siding it was struck about the mail
car by a double header freight and
that all the cars to the sleeper wreck
ed with Injury to a number of pass
engers.
A Boom In Society.
Vioita as well as many other tcrri
tory towns is now passing through
what might be called a boom in so-
ciety. For the past few weeks scarce-
ly a night has passed without one or
two social gatherings. Card parties
especially whist are in great favor
and many pleasant hours are spent at
this amusement by the young people
ofTInita.
Going Into Business.
Mr. Balentine has decided to 0 in
to business again on the east side in
his old store building where he was in
business so long. Within a few days
he expects to reopou his old business
and will be very sure to get his share
of the grocery trade. At present
there Is only one grocery store cn the
east side Thos. Bluejacket and there
seems to bo a good opening for Mr.
Balentine again. We hope to see him
do a good business.
Nashville Students Thursday night.
College Notes.
Miss Cora Keys of Nowata is a new
boarder at the College.
Misses Lucy and Laura Allen of
Coody's Bluff came back to school yes
terday after a two weeks' vacation.
Every department has had new pu
pils today. The primary room will be
made larger to make room for the pu
pils.
Miss Mabel and Jessie Lamar pf
Fairland former pupils of Mr.
and Mrs. Morrison when at Neosho
entered the College for the spring
term.
The elocution pupils' are preparing
to present the trial scene from the
Merchant of Venice soon.
The pupils of the primary depart
ment will give a cantata at the opera
house soon. "Golden Hair and tlie
Three Bears."
