Corrected Estimate.
Two weeks ago I gave out an
estimate on the vote that would
be cast for chief in the present
election. At that time tbe nomi-
nations were not made in Tahle-
vuah and Delaware districts. Tbe
nominations now being made I
desire to chang that estimate. By
tbe nominations for senators in
these two districts as well as some
minor changes that now appe'ar
from the results of the approach-
ing election the nomination of E.
M. Landrum and W. T. llarnage
for the Senate in Tablerjuah dis.
trict will give a mnjority fur Cook
son of 200 voten. The harmoni-
ous nominations of Delaware with
all factions of the National party
being satisfied will insure that
district "to the National candidates
of 250 votes. Information from
Cooweescoowee H i ntri ct shows a
decided gain for Ihe Nationals of
about 300 to 400 votes. As it now
appears Cookson's majority in the
who nation will be more than 650
Votes. The senate will stand 16
Nalionale 2 Downing Canadian
district electing the two Downing
senators The Council will stand
21 Nationals to 16 Downing-i The
Nationsla will have a majority of
22 votes on a joint ballot Tnis

tionals thsi will be filled by the
next National Council.

The Perfect Liver Medicine.
Mrs. M. A. Jolley Noble O.T.. writes:
"1 have used Ilerbine for a number of
years and can cheerfully recommend it
as the most perfect liver medicine and
the greatest blood purifier. It is a medi-
cine of posttive nu rit and fully accom-
plishes all that is claimed f r it." Ma-

BABIES IN ROME.
TVIiere LeadliiK-Strliigiii Are Fact
Klid Xot Merely u I'lfeure
of Seeeli.
The Romans are devoted to their
children although their ways are not
our ways; no woman of the better class
nurses her child baby carriages are un-
known and swaddling is still in vogue
at least with tbe lower classes writes
Maud Howe in Lippineott's. I know
a young American lady married to a
Roman who imported a perambulator
for her first baby. The balfa wet-
nurse a Btiperb cow of a woman re-
fused to trundle it saying she was not
strong enough although I saw her
carry a heavy trunk upstairs on her
head while I was calling at the house.
The baby Is now a big 18. months old
bey; every day the balla goes out to
give him an airing carrying him in
her arms. Here leading-strings are
facts not symbols. In Trastavere
Where I went Bight-seeing with Helen
peering as she calls It the best sight
we saw was a darling rod-haired bahy
In leading-strings stumbling along in
front of its grandmother. In the di-
vision of labor the care of the children
falls upon the grandmother; the moth-
er's time is too valuable; it she is not
act- !y employed in earning money
there is the heavier work of the house-
hold to do. To use the pet phrase of the
board "things are different here
from what they are at home."

Consul A. L. M. Gottsehalk writing
from San Juan Del Norte in regard to
the use of shark fins for industrial pur-
posi s in the United B'ates says:
"Sharks exist in large- numbers on this
coast. The Niearaguan fishery laws
eeem to permit of their being caught as
vermin and there appears to he no ex
port duty on any industrial product de-
rhed from them. A number of persons
her" believe that they could deal with
the 1'nitPd States in shark fins or in
6hsri: backbones and skins. The for-
mer are used extensively in some coun-
tries in the making of walking canes;
the latter are made into leather em-
ployed for sword grips and fancy arti-
cles. Large quantities of these products
coui'.l he sent to the I'nitrd States were
there a market for them. I should be
glad to communicate with parties in-
terr.'fd. if the.se articles are market-
able in the United States." N. Y.
