0 ' MARKET.
O J. A. Rickart Correspondent
O
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Kansas City Stock Yards July IS.
Si fcuaidrsd and forty car loads of
quarantine cattle arrived here last
week and although there were fairly
good runs of cattle at all the markets
trade channels were open and every-
thing moved easily the close of the
week showing a gain of 10 tq 13 cents
on both steers and cows in the quaran-
tine division. Calves closed about like
the beginning after having sold fifty'
cents higher at the middle of the week.
Run in the quarantine division today
is 175 car loads rather moderate for
Monday and the prediction is made
that our biggest runs for this year
have already arrived. Kansas cattle
are running to market in Increasing
numbers each week and reports from
Colorado gay 'that 'cattle- 'from. vtt)e
mountain 'ranges in that -state 'are
three or four weeks ahead of their us-
ual condition at this time of the sum-
mer and that they will move freely
after the middle of August. Dry weath-
er is forcing a good many cattle on
the market from the northwest 25000
cattle iu Chicago today market 10 low-
er there but the moderate supply here
today enabled salesmen to hold prices
steady although there was something
Of a fight at the ptart. Some of the
Silberstine cattle sold at $5.40 today
and the best Osage steers are selling
at $5.00 to $5.50 top last week $5.80
the latter some cake fed steers from
Texas. Lighter Oklahoma steers sell
at $4.40 to $5.00 a few steers under
800 lbs. around $4.00 cows at $3.50 to
$4.15 heifers $3.75 to $4.50' bulls $3.65
to $4.00 top reals today $8.50 heavy
calves $4.50 to $6.50.
Hog values declined about 40 cents
last week and the feature of the wqek
outside of the big slump was that light
hogs got the biggest end of the loss
especially after the middle of the
week. Run today is 6000 head mar-
ket opened weak but shipper buyers
were active and the close was 5 to 10
higher beavies again coming in for
their full share. Best lights reached
$8.72 V2 today medium weights $8.65
heavy 'hogs $8.45. The rally today is
regarded as only temporary as the
market Is destined to a lower level be-
fore the end of the month in the opin-
ion of traders. European countries
are said to be curtailing consumption
of American lard to an extent not yet
realized by the trade due to high
price but more to the use of vegetable
oils and other substitutes.
Big funs of dry weather sheep from
the northwest at the northern mar-
kets and of southern natives in the
east caused a bad break In prices last
week. Run- Is only 2000 here today
the country holding off account of the
bad market' prices steady today best
lambs worth $6.50 to $7.00 wethers up
to $4.25 ewes $4.00 feeding wethers
around $4.00 breeding ewes may be a
little more.
J. D. . Benedict was here from Mus-
kogee last night.
