ALL DEMAND
OF NEWJLECIION LAW
(iuthrie Ok. Nov 20 One thing which
democrats and republicans are uniting in
demanding from the coming legislature is
the repeal or radical revision of the new
( lection law passed la-it winter. F. I).
Cameron state superintendent of public
instruction is one of the strongest opi-
:ients of the law as it now stands and
especially criticises the provision requiring
the voter to declare his politics before he
registers which he characterizes as an
o.itrage upon the freedom of the ballot.
Mr. Cameron insists that one of the
greatest mistakes which has been made
in Oklahoma was in trying to play poli-
tics on matters of that sort. The Guthrie
Leader the official mouthpiece of the
democratic state administration also
comes out editorially demanding "a decent
election law in place of the thing now in
force."

qfTorts will be made by the department of
agriculture to stamp out the dreaded con-
tagious ailment among cattle known as
the foot and mouth disease discovered
amoung live stock in Pennsylvania and
New York. As a result Secretary WiLon
yesterday Issued an order quarantining
these states. All driving of cattle sheep
swine and other ruminants is prohibited.
The quarantine is unusually strict in the
liope9 of preventing the spread of disease.

New York Nov. 20 JulWi I). Rockefeller
was again on the stand when the Standard
Oil company hearing was resumed today.
The cross examination was begun at once
by Frank D. Kellogg special assis'.snl
district wtiorney. la response .o questions
about the hazardous natureof the oilbusi-
ness owing to the possibility of a failure of
supply Rockefeller said that the production
of crude oil in the Pennsylvania held had
steadily increased from 180:2 to PMH).
"You have been prosperous since the
beginning" asked Kellogg.
"Yes."
"Do you consider a basic - s hazardous

Session of the Legislature Pre-
pare to Wage Their Fight.
Gutluie OK. Nov. 20 The county
c iininissioners' organization of Oklahoma
will maintain a lobby at (iuthrie during
the coining legislature and urge legisla-
tion to allow commissioners to employ
assistant county attorneys and to give
commissioners enlarged juiwer to remedy
objectionable features to township govern-
ment. The commissioners wall institute
s lit in the supreme court to test the
authority of such nllicers to oeti section
lines across segregated Indian lands.
WHY "CAG" WAS NOT WORKED.
Oklahoma Nov. 20. The light over the
speakership of the house at the coming
session of the legislature is waxing warm !
with the winner still hard to pick. At the
present time the four most prominent
candidates seem to be Bert Tillotson of
Nowata: Ben F. Harrison of Calvin; John
R. McCalla. of Marietta and Leslie P. '
Ross of Lawton. I
Tillotson would apparently be the most j
formidable of the quartette were it not (
for the fact that his seat is sure to be con -
tested and that his right to a certificate
of election is now being questioned in the
courts. Tillotson is going ahead with his
f'-'dit regardless of that fact but is neces-
i I y handicapped by it. Harrison will
have the support of (lie representatives
from the Choctaw nation almost solidly
while McCalla will have equally .strong
support from the Chickasaw country.
Ross is trying to line up the west sider.
behind his candidacy. He is hindered
somewhat by ihe 'candidacy of another
representative from his own county A.
11. Japp who is not. however considered
seriously as a speakership possibility.
When the weeding out comes Ross seems
likely to be about the only west side can-
dicate left and may win on that account.
There are several other west side candi-
dates including (I. L: Wilson of Manguiu
I. M. ("Aguinaldo") Putnam of Oklahoma
City and Ben F. Wilson of Cereal but
none of ihem is expected to develop more
than local strength. Milton Bryan of
Shawnee may get into the race and if
he does will probably prove a formidable
candidate.
Senator Clint Graham of Marietta
seems to have matters pretty well cinched
as president pro tern of the senate. His
only opponent so far isSenatorJ.il.
Strain of Waun. Senator J. Lhuer Thomas
had been expected t ) be a candidate for
that honor but announces that he is for
Graham. Thomas does not want to do
anything that would hurt the chances of
fellow townsman. Ross fur speaker of the
lower house.
"Gristmill" Jones of Oklahoma City is
idmo.it certain to get the republican cau-
cus nomination for sH'aker and become
the minority leader in the lower house
while Senator K. I) lirownlee of King-
fisher will in all probability be accorded
a like honor in the upper house ltoth
have great capacity for making things
uncomfortable for the majority.
