Congress has adjourned and busi-

THE CUMMINS WELCOME.
With much Reclaim Senator Cum
mlns of Iowa was welcomed by the
people of Des Mollis on his return
from Washington.
What had CnminliiH done to merit
the demonstration In his honor? He
had consistently opposed the Aldrlch
manner of making a tariff bill. He
had when the (mention was submitted
to vote declared against It. He had
done hla duty by his convictions and
by the promises of the republican
platform.
Senator Cummins did not believe
that the Pnyne-Aldrieh tariff law was
n sincere effort to revise the tariff
downward. Ho bad used the full
measure of his ability to compel the
republican machine at Washington to
deal fairly with the people by carry
Ing out the pledges made to the peo
pie.
Cummins was one of the little group
of senators who did their best.
Had Cummins been president do
you imagine he would have approved
and apologized for the Payne-Aidrlch
tariff bill?
Had Taft been a senator do you lm
ngine bo would have been among the
progressive minority or republican
Kcnators?
