known ss Town Topics which Is a
soil of Sunday Sun and devoted to
abuse of the rich is Involved. It is
engaged In printing a book called
"Fads and Kane es" and it seems that
a great many rich people paid from
$1600 to $10000 for "write tips" In
this book which has not yet appeared.
Associated with "Town Topics" were
a number of other editors of New
York "iioclety papers" The founda-
tion for the $20000 "Kads and
Fancies" job was apparently not
blackmail but merely a sharp playing
on the vanity of the very rich peo-
ple of this country. Their Inst for
fami was so great that they cheer
fully paid J'1.50o to $10 000 ap.ece to
hiv their memoriej embalmed In
this extraordinary production The

Four Hundred turned on the solicitor
and said:

very much more likely to pay $1500
to keep out of such society than to
