Chicago III. May 31. Tho team-
ators strike today spread to the de-
partment stores. Elghty-nlno men
working for the Fair struck and It is
stated 100 more men employed by
other big down town stores would bo
out by tonight.
The effect. It was said would bo
practically to shut off tho delivery ot
goods to customers and bringing In
o? new stock.
The department store teamsters
union was recently formed and is af-
filiated with Uio national organiza-
tion on the Bamo footing as the one at
the stock yards. The men mako tho
stuno demand as do tho packers' team-
sters foi better hours higher wages
and recognition of tho union.
Tho police wero called to guard tho
Fair where the strikers placed num-
erous pickets.
Pump Runners Out Monday.
Wilkesbarre Pa. May 31. There Is
every reason to believe tho pump run-
ners will respond with practical unani-
mity next Monday to President Mitch-
ell's order to strike unless they aro
granted an eight hour working day
and other conditions prescribed by
the Shamokln convention.
That the operators do not proposo
to yield Is evidenced by tho high.

about the reported tiff between Lord
Salisbury and King Edward which is
said to have arisen on account of the
king's demand that the premier recom-
mend Sir Ernest Cassel for the peer
age.

met with refusal. This year it was
again urged by the king and tho
premier absolutely refused to counte-
nance the suggestion .and at the end
of a stormy Interview rvhloh occurred
on tho day of a stato dinner Lord
Salisbury remarked:
"Well sir I suppose I had better
loavo my place at tonight's banquet
vacant?"
To which the king is said to hayo
replied;
"Yes I think you had" and stalked
out of tho room.

ag don to th Santa Fe road through
the Arkansas valley by a flood in tho
Arkansas river is much greater than
at first supposed. Near Caddo fifty
miles east of here several hundred
feet of track is washed out and It will
probably bo a week before transpor-
tation can bo resumed. Tho Santa Fe
is still using the Missouri Pacific
traaks. Tho Hood is subsiding.

11 o'clock today by Mayor Ball. Im-
md lately a mass meeting was called
at tho Guthrio olub and tho serious
turn in Katy affairs was discussed.
The matter ot utilizing the sowerago
bonds was freely considered and tho
consensus of opinion seemed to favor
the matter of using the city's money
at a good percent with unquestioned
collateral
While this matter was pending Mr.
Miles Allen arrived at tho club rooms
and relieved tho tenso situation by
agreeing to turn over Morldlau town-
site f6i 'a certain sum to a corporation
of Katy subscribers.
The proposition was acted on Im-
mediately. On motion the following
memorandum was drawn up:
"We hereby subscribe tho amounts
set opposlto our respective names to
tho capital stock of an Incorporation
to b formeed under the laws of Okla-
homa and to be called the Meridian
Townsite and Bight of Way com-

which is on exhibition at Wallace's
drug store it is done In purple and

Mrs. Hornor does excellent work In
china painting and the work on this
piece could not bo excelled.

ial from Anadarko Okla. gays:
In three hours last night tho Washi-
ta rivor at this point rose nearly six-
teen feet carrying away dozens of
tents and outbuildings on the low-
lauds and Hooding the town to a
depth of four foot or more.
People In bottoms barely had tlmo
to escape to high ground and a num
ber were forced to climb trees. Sev-
eral peopld who woro In porllous posi-
tions wero rescued by boats ono wo-
mam wi(h a fllroo weeks' old baby
being taken trom the brAncnos of a
tree. It is believed no lives woro lost
though many are homelefl.
Today the water Is receding. Th
river north ot Anadarko 1b a mils
