hundred miles away. The reports
are followed by columns of smoke
rising In tho air. Immense balls of
colored Are also issue from tho crater.
Lightning is p laying fiercely in tho
upper sky and the whole northern
part of the Island is one mass of
traveling flame.
It Is Impossible to reach the burn-
ing district by land or sea and there
is no means of estimating the do-
struction wrought to life and prop-
erty. Kingstown tho capital of St Vin-
cent is still safe though showers of
ashes and pebbles are continually fall-
ing. Tho volcano Itself is invisible.
Disaster Worse Than Reported.
London May 14. The governor of
Windward Islands Sir Robert Llewel-
yn telegraphs to the colonial office
from tho Island of St. Vincent un-
der date of May 13 as follows:
"I arrived hero yesterday and found
tho state of affairs much worse than
had been stated. The administra
tor's reports show that tho country
on tho ea3t coast between Robin
Rock and Georgetown was apparent-
ly struck and devastated In a manner
similar to that which destroyed St
Pierre and I fear that practically all
living things in that radius were kill-
ed. Probably 1.000 persons lost tholr
lives.
"A thousand bodies have been
found and buried. One hundred and
sixty persons aro' In tho hospital at
Georgetown. Probably only six of
this number will recover."

there is appalling. Tho streets are
two feet deep in ashes and cinders
which cover thousands of bodies
scorched black and shiny as if they
had been plunged into boiling pitch.

New York May 14. With food

Frank Daniels and May Williams In
Police Court This Mornliig.
Frank Daniels well known in po
lice court circles and a woman giv-
ing her name as May WlUIams were
before tho police court this morning
charged with unlawfully assuming to
bo man and wife or something liko
that Daniels was required to pay a
fine of twenty dollars and costs and
the woman was glvon half that amount
to dig up. They failed to dig and
Daniels is on tho rock pile.
Requisition Issued.
A requisition was issued by tho
governor today for John Thomas who
Is wanted In Caddo county charged
with murder in tho first degree. Tho-
mas is now under arrest in Iowa.
Sheriff J. E. Thompson of Caddo
county left today with tho Iiecessary
pilars to bring the prisoner back.

The route runs through Oklahoma
territory in an easterly direction
through the Osage ami Cherokee na-
tions to Stevens. The mortgage was
divided into gold bearing Interest
bonds of the sum of $1000 each and
they wore sold to the Central Trust
company of New York City and be-
come due tn forty years and bear fivo
nor cent Interest.
