Echols of Mangum Wants Senator for
Congressional Fight.
R. C. Echols of Mangum editor of
tho Star and president of tho Demo-
cratic Press association of Oklaho-
ma has sprung a now candidate for
congrosB. He Is very-mucn In favor
of Senator Chas. M. Thicker repre-
senting Oklahoma in the next light.
Thacker Is from Greer county and is
well known over the territory. In an
interview Mr. Ekshola says the follow-
ing "Gieer county possesses In ex Sen-
ator Chas. M. Thacker tne most prom-
ising candidate for delegate to con-
gross In tho territory. He is one of
tho ablest lawyers In tho territory ns
has bon proven In all the territorial
courts. Moreover he Is a good mlxor
and ono of tho best speakers on tho
stump in Oklahoma.
"Ills porsonnl financial and politi-
cal Integrity have nover been quos-
tlonod. Ho was a conspicuous and
leading mombor of the Oklahoma
council In 1889 In which position he
mado hlmsolf favorably known to the
leaders over tho entire territory.
"Sonator Thackor possossos to an
unusual degree the elements which
go to make an ldoal candidate which
fact at a time when ldoal candidates
aro admittedly scarce can not bo over-
looked. "Wliile lie has performofl an Import-
ant and manly part in the affairs of
tho territory In tho past ho has yot
hold hlmsolf aloof from and remalnod
outsldo of tho factions. Ko stands
removed fro mthe broils and joalous-
lea which make It Impossible to nomi-
nate and elect a man from the oast
sldo. His candidacy will moro nearly
allay all factional feeling; will moro
completely lianmcilzc). cement and
solidify the pnrty than perhaps any
man In the territory. At this llmo
when unity of action and purpose Is
of such paramount importance this
is no small consideration.
"Senator Thacker will go into the
convention with the advantages of any
other candidate. Ho will not only
havo the west side solidly for him but
ffitl havo tho additional advantage that
thoro will he no reason wny all of tho
counties can not come to his standard.
His friends present him zo the terri-
tory as the most promising man in
Oklahoma believing that he will win
and that his triumph will bo the tri-
umph of tho whole territory."
