The value of wheat for hog food
h&B boon demonstrated by practlonl
fee dors and tho experiment stations.
Pound for pound it Is oqunl or slight-
ly superior to corn when properly fe 1.
A bushel of wheat will produce from
12 to lfi pounds of pork wen fc4 o

Fed With Good Results.
L'tue definite Information Is on
rcio d in feeding wheat to cattle al-
though hundreds have been so fed with
good lesults. In the few experiments
at experiment stations in this line
wheat has been fed mixed with other
grain. Whtm fed file wny It has giv-
en results fully oqunl to corn. At
the Ohio station steers fed on n
mixture of wheat meal and bran ro
quired 6.7 pounds of gralp to pro
duce a pound of gain. At tho Kansas
station twelvo steers fed on wheat
meal for 03 days required 5.72 pounds
of grain tor each pound of gain. This
Is 10.5 pounds of beef from a burhel
of wheat. The 03 days were the first
part of the feeding porlod. When he
grain was limited In amount the
Bteers at It well without getUng off
feed. A thousand pound steer should
not be fed over 10 or 18 pounds of
wheat meal rer day as wheat will
surfeit a steer more readily than corn
meal. Ground Is tho only condition
in which to feed wheat to oattlo and
better results will bo obtained wllh
th' If it can be mixed with bran or
cotton seed meal
"Wheat maUee good feed for diary
cat le. but should bo fed with alfalfa
bran cotton seed or cotton seed raonl
for tho host results.
With shqop wheat feeding has been
very successful as tho grain gives iio
host rosults when fed whole nnd dry
and tho cost of proparntlon is saved.
At tho Michigan oxporiment station
whea' fed to lambs returned 100
pounds gain for each 653 pounds of
train fed.
Opinions differ much on the merits
of wheat as a horse feed. Due to im-
proper methods of feeding many poor
results have followed but this should
not detract from Ua worth for this
purpose. Whole dry wheat cannot be
fed to a Tiorse wltU good results es-
pecially to work or driving homes.
Soaking It In proves It some uu
grinding la by far the beat method
of preparing it for horses but it it Is
fed as an exclusive feed even In this
condi Ion care will be necessary to
avoid colic h times Much better
results will be obtained by mixing
half bran oats or corn with the wheat
or mixlntMt with chopped feed.
Make Best Use Of It.
The composition of wheat Is suoli
that for the animal to make the best
use of It some food rich in protein
must be added. Cot on seed meal
can be used In most cases for this
purpose. Whcu corn or wheat is 25
to 30 cents per buBhel this consider-
ation has not much Importance hut
with the present prlco the saving
maJc by balancing up the ration will
be considerable
There will be considerable question
aa to how whea will pay ouf this year

can be no question but thai K will

no very definite reason has yet been
