Brought to Life With Salt.

Hamilton Ind. Jan. 18. The effi-
cacy of sodium chloride (common
salt) f6f stimulation of heart action
was demonstrated In a remsrkaelb
manner hjk Dr. W. J. Kumler here to-
day Dr. Kumler waa called to attend
Marcus Sauer. 62 years old who has
been long a sufferer from dropsy. He
found the patient apparently dead.
All the symptoms Immediately follow-
ing dissolution and absence of respira
tion heart action and pulse were
manifest.
Dr. Kumler resolved to try the salt
solution m a final resort. At 1:87 p
m. he injected a quantity of warm
water oonlaiulug 26 per cent of salt
In the left arm. In twenty seconda
there were signs of a pulse rnd It wns

rei-tored.
In twenty-five minutes a second hy-
podermic initiation was administered
this time in n branch of the brttohial
artery in the upper left arm.
Tu twenty minute from the injoc-
tton of salt the respiration was full
nnd rythmical. Color returned and
the patient regained consciousness
and aeked for food. Food lit the form
of broth was administered and soon
after Mr. Bauer took a drink of water
one of the best symptoms of the re-
turn of functional activity. He Is im-
